Re: Total Audacity noob here
lavalier microphones requiring 2.5 volts of plug-in power. That's the lavalier (chest microphone) that's designed to plug into your computer Mic-In. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/lavalier2.jpg That may not be the advance you think. Nobody is expecting those to sound very good, so nobody is goi...

Re: Do we "own" our work?
You could team up with one of the many out of work writers out there, announce original work and use it as promotion for both of you.

Re: Advice on how to produce clearest voice for audiobook
A heavy ruched curtain would be better than egg cartons. Curtain-fabric can be fire-retardant, not so egg cartons which are a fire-hazard. But, if you decide to go with the egg cartons, you can do slightly better by making a curtain out of them and suspend them two or three inches away from the wal...

Also note that Steve's RMS Normalize and the Audacity Effect > Normalize are very different. Steve's works directly on loudness. That's the "RMS" part of the name.

And if you do it that way, make sure you have View > Show Clipping turned on. That will produce red bands in the blue waves that have gotten too high. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ShowClipping.jpg That may sound OK in Audacity, but it may click, tick and crack when you get the sound files out ...

Found it. This is a Joby GripTight One cellphone mount for an existing photo tripod. $20 usd. It's adjustable. Check it fits your phone. https://joby.com/us-en/griptight-one-mount-jb01490-config/ JobyGripTightOneCellphoneMount.jpg When not in use, it unscrews, folds flat and fits in your pocket. Put...

Re: Playing along backing tracks
It would be good knowing exactly what the error said, but Overdubbing usually fails because the Audacity Record and Playback settings both have to be set, correct and match. No fair having one at 44100 and the other at 48000, for example.

Re: How do I make both channels same volume?
Audacity doesn't do anything in real time—during the recording. I can think of a couple of ways of automating the balance. Install Chris's Compressor... https://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ ...and run it on each side after you split them. If you change the ...

iPhones will shoot video. Home Screen > Camera > Video. Do us all a favor and shoot it landscape (sideways) and not portrait (up and down). I think one of the simple video editors comes with a Mac. iMovie? Shoot a simple test before you jump in for a twenty minute video and find out the sound is ter...

Re: Removing hum from audio
Is there a way to completely take that off the audio track My guess is no. The Noise Reduction tools need a second or two of "pure noise" as a sample. Noise by itself with no other sounds. Any of the other sound management tools might delete the vent noise, but will also destroy musical t...
