Re: Latency in overdubs
I hit the record button, a new track appears and the cursor moves, recording for about 0.1 second, then it stops. Audacity can do that if it has trouble finding the microphone or can only find it part of the time. Way in the beginning of the Overdubbing tutorial is make sure your Audacity works nor...

Re: How to install the ACX-check plug-in in Windows 7
You already have the location in Analyze rather than Effect. Did your download "help you out" by renaming the file acx-check.ny.txt ? Windows would have helpfully hidden the .txt part to avoid confusing you and thereby leaving you befuddled. You can Google how to force Windows to show you ...

Re: increase volume in parts of speech recording?
Unless it was an app specifically designed to record both sides of a phone call (illegal in some places) what you have is a clear cellphone recording for you and data echo cancellation trash for the guest. I did it with a special microphone and a stand-alone sound recorder or computer. The Olympus T...

Re: Latency in overdubs
Buffer is just the amount of time Audacity thinks it needs to save up work to avoid computer traffic jams and bottlenecks. Computers seem like they're doing things in real time, but they're not. Buffer is different from Latency, making new and old music line up. But they can affect each other. You c...

Re: Latency in overdubs
I have the compuer partitioned and most of the space is dedicated to Linux. I think just the fact that you have a partition is a problem. Is this a spinning metal drive? You might be able to get away with that using a Solid State Drive. They're blindingly fast compared to horsing a physical actuato...

Re: adding effect to just one track w overdubbing
All these people are performing to a backing track. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/lin-manuelMicrophone.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/JoshTurnerSings.jpg The headphones have to have a good, soft head seal, too. You can't have backing track sou...

Re: Recording my voice and compare to the original
The "original track" does not have spaces between sentence for me to speak. I think you're too close to the problem. What you want seems easy, but it's exactly the same jobs as making a radio show. You have existing voices and nobody knows what the lengths and volumes are. You are going t...

Re: Latency in overdubs
There's another common mistake. You have to be recording from a real, live, thing when you overdub. Microphone or microphone driver. You can't record from a "fake device" such as Stereo Mix, or What-U-Hear. Stereo Mix is used to let you record off-air sounds and music. It's redirection sof...

Re: Latency in overdubs
The monitoring through the headphones was in sync. Doesn't matter. That's Machine latency. Recording latency is when your new track fails to overlay with the backing track. The setup sounds silly but is pretty easy. Create a click track test and use that as the backing track. Go into overdub and ja...
