Sometimes, the computer will try to "help you out" by renaming the file with a .txt after it. Rename the file back to the original.

Re: ACX Check Plug-in
If ACX Check appears under Analyze, it should be ready to go. Select some audio and Analyze > ACX Check . Fair warning, you can fake out ACX Check. It will respond to ultrasonic noise and rumble whether you can hear it or not. The noise part of the test needs at least 3/4 second of pure background n...

Re: No Woman, No Cry
You're already close. We could probably force your existing readings to work with clever use of filters and effects, but that's desperation method. Filters affect the sound quality and you have to remember to use them each time and for every shoot. That and the fridge goes on and off. Much better to...

Heavy is good. You're not shipping a gift where they charge for each ounce. You want the sound to have to move the most mass.

Re: Audacity skipping while recording?
Are you going through a USB hub or splitter? Audio (or video) should never do that. Always go straight into the computer. Hub time sharing may cause the audio stream to drop bits here and there. You may not notice it on a keyboard or mouse, but the audio stream is going to notice it. Can you try mor...

Re: This doesn't look right... help!

That will create distortion. If you turn on View > Show Clipping, Audacity will put red lines in the wave...

You had me when It looks like the second or third job that wood has been put to. When I get done with a piece of wood it's trash and sawdust.

Cool. X-Y configuration. Which tea is that? I guess technically, they should be matched microphones for this to work exactly right, but that should get really close. They're the same model, right, even though they're different colors. I've never used X-Y other than the one that comes with my Zoom H4...

Re: No Woman, No Cry
If absolutely nothing works, you have a portable recorder. Pick it up and walk around the room pointing it different directions as you go. "This is pointed at the north window." I expect the noise to get louder and softer as you go. It's best if you can hear it in headphones as you walk ar...
