Re: This doesn't look right... help!

Audiobook
That works. We'll make it into a simple word instead of a compound.

Re: This doesn't look right... help!

You can reduce the can opener with gentle noise reduction. After mastering, drag-select a bit of the 2-second room tone and Effect > Noise Reduction: Profile. Then select the whole performance by clicking just right of the up arrow on the left. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/JusttRightOfTheU...

Re: Recording audio of "noise"

The problem is that I'm located in an urban environment. That's a very serious problem. Traffic and urban noises is one of the conditions Audacity isn't particularly good at. Then I use Noise Reduction, pick a sample without roll. The outcome seems a bit off though even after tweaking the defaults ...

Re: Can't scroll. Have I lost my mind??

I just downloaded 2.1.0
You just downloaded it? That doesn't sound right. Maybe you got it from a bogus supplier. That's not the current version.

Re: This doesn't look right... help!

Oh, I think I see it. There's a little tick at about 5 seconds (there may be more). That's not a logical place for a lip smack, I don't think, so the computer may be doing that. That could be fun. Hope for lip smacks. Those are relatively easy to deal with. Trying to cure data errors in the computer...

It was always down to your delivery speed. The text was an approximation. So a little audiobook mastering and boop. Good to go. Screen Shot 2019-01-23 at 07.43.56.png So now it's up to theatrical patching for any clicking or popping in your delivery. I need to play real life for a while. Koz

Re: How to set default "playback speed" slider

Might you really want Effect > Change Speed, Effect > Change Tempo or Effect > Change Pitch?

Those are actual effects and can, I'm guessing, be programmed.

Re: Batch convert folder of 100 AUP files to WAV

You should probably stop calling them "AUP files." The AUP file is a project manager text file. You're trying to manage Audacity Projects and those have unique rules.

Re: Allow user to drop AUP files into the Audacity editor.

every other software app on the face of planet earth since 1994.) Yes, but. AUP is a text file, not sound. Audacity can't open it. It could launch the Project. That's different. Audacity has always had that odd dividing line between Projects and Sound files. This leads it to not Save a sound file. ...
