Re: Understanding sound levels
You can go over 20 seconds in a posting, but you can't go much over 2MB digital filesize. That's when the forum cuts you off. Oh, this is good. I can listen to a story in that voice. I sent it through mastering and it still came back too noisy. I applied moderate, simple noise reduction 8, 6, 6 and ...

Re: Understanding sound levels
This is the ACX Audiobook Mastering process. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_Mastering It's not the only one, but it seems to work more often than not. That posting is pages and pages of description how to apply three tools. Equalizer is a rumble filter to get rid of very low pitch soun...

https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=297423#p297423 ACX's goal is a pleasant reading at good volume with no distractions. The RMS (loudness) value makes sure all your chapters match loudness and they match every other audiobook. The peak value keeps you out of distortion from getting too l...

Re: Understanding sound levels
if I had to guess, I'd say that they are "plosives" ("P" or "B" sounds that have caused "wind blast" on the microphone) But we won't have to guess if you post a sound sample. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Once we find out what...

Re: Understanding sound levels
I don't need a degree in audio recording to figure all this out adequately to accomplish this task. You [tapping gently on shoulder] are the recording engineer. You don't have to be. You can do this for real by showing up at an actual studio with a real recording engineer and walk out with an excel...

Re: Cassette Tape - Noise Removal
We didn't get a sound sample. You can post the work on a file hosting service and point to it, or you can cut down a ten second stereo sample and post it on the forum. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=72887 More is good, but you can't go much over 10 seconds stereo (2MB). Koz

Re: can't move pasted section?
I think you're trying to do too much in one track. Make a second track under the first one ( Tracks > Add New ) and paste in that. The Time Shift Tool (two sideways arrows) will then push either track around independently of the other. Audacity will Automatically smash everything together into one s...
Re: Mac Mini
OK. Problem has been fixed. Thanks for posting back and telling us how you fixed it. That's Mac privacy settings, right? That's just a little wacky. It allows a device connection to exist, but won't allow a transfer of data. Where did you go to find that fix? @silkyjnr .. Did this solve your proble...

Re: Undo an effect Maded before Saved
revorded a song When you finish live performing a song, Export a WAV sound file before you do anything else. If there is an error in editing or production and UNDO is not available, you can open the WAV file. MP3 and Audacity Projects are not recommended for this. If there is no WAV backup file and...

Projects will not save UNDO if you close Audacity.
