Re: Basic Overdubbing

I guess I'll try some other software. If you get something to work, post back. Particularly if you try something else and it doesn't work. I just can't seem to be able to carry out the simplest of overdubbing. It's not that simple. Audacity support elves across 9 time zones can't fix it either. Do ...

Re: De-Ess Plug-In For Audacity

This probably isn't perfection. Having the tool start looking for trouble at 2500Hz is probably wrong. The Essing tonal boost doesn't start until around 5000Hz, but again, this seems to work. I may have hit something desirable by accident. 3000Hz is baby screaming on a jet/fingernails on blackboard ...

Re: De-Ess Plug-In For Audacity

OK. To repeat. Attached is the Steckler clip mastered according to this... https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_Mastering ...but otherwise clean. It passes ACX Check just fine but has very serious Essing. Steckler-Mastered.wav Apply DeEsser, Attached. DeEsser.ny Effect > DeEsser... At these ...

Re: De-Ess Plug-In For Audacity

I like the second recording better as well. I can show you how I did that when I get back to the grown-up computer. There is a trick to it. I, too, found the default DeEsser settings didn't do squat, so on a whim, I Audiobook Mastered the test clip to guarantee technical standards and volume no mat...

Re: ACX say my RMS is too low

Should I wait until I hear from Greg after he has contacted ACX? Don't wait. Your posting of the short chapter (thanks for that!) cleared a lot of the questions and seeming contradictions. I shared some of your work with Steve. Our tools and diagnostics are a lot closer to each other than it seemed...

Re: Play File without Opening?

Not that I know of.

Macs have a terrific Preview function that's quick and relatively compact and doesn't try to open a massive app. After I find what I'm after, then File > Open With > Audacity.

And yes, sometimes Auto Open gets in the way.

Re: How to put (book)marks into a whole MP3

iTunes supports "chapters" It also supports Playlists which sounds a lot like what you want. Open the playlist on your player and you can skip around to any song or Next-Next-Next. No, there's no stand-alone sound format that does that. Oddly you can program that in web page HTML. Open th...

Re: HELP!! Error code not allowing me to open any of my Filies

What was the exact error? I save my projects and close Audacity and then reopen it. Always with Save As and slightly different names, right? My-Project-Tuesday-Noon My-Project-Tuesday-1335 My Project-Wednesday-0930 Because if you didn't do that, then you are continuously editing one single project. ...

Re: Basic Overdubbing

Apologies for being slow. All of us get interrupted by Real Life. I'm trying to think of other ways to test this. The basic computer sound system has two pathways. -- Computer playback out to the speakers or headphones. Full Stop. -- Then there's computer recording from microphone or other audio co...

Re: ACX say my RMS is too low

Please note “ACX Check” is a third-party plug-in not developed by ACX. He's right. We designed it and It's a reflection of their own published standards and our experiences. For the most part, if you can pass that, you can pass actual ACX acceptance. It's fascinating their method of testing and the...
