Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter

apply minimal noise reduction that we’d be about there. That does pass technical requirements. The only thing left is theatrical considerations. That's entirely up to you. There is no acting filter. Two notes here. In My Opinion, if you find something that works, you hold onto it with white knuckle...

Re: Noise floor too high (ACX) no matter what. Please help.

Post some of your work. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Many noises have signatures and sometimes we can just tell you where the noise is coming from. USB connections can have data scrambling noise. Microphone preamplifiers always make noise and sometimes it's excessiv...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter

You can fake out ACX Check. ACX Check requires about 3/4 second of clean, pure background noise somewhere in the piece to measure ACX Noise. If it doesn't get it, it will measure the quietest thing it can find and if that happens to be you breathing, it will return a stupid high fake noise reading. ...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter

First three readings and sentence 2/3 down. Yup. If you can make that hum go away forever, you pretty much got this thing licked. Grounding issues wave their hands and say "Here I am" if you know what the symptoms are. Touching and not touching the microphone or interface is a classic shi...

Re: No Playback in any file Cursor/marker doesn't move

Recording and Playback are different and usually separate in computers. I have recorded one show while I played back a different one without them interfering with each other. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices > Playback. Where are you trying to send the sound? If the destination is damaged or ...

Re: de-breathing

Are you reading for audiobooks? I don't know of any instance where ACX has turned down a submission for natural sounds such as breathing. So unless you're asthmatic or have another other airway problem, the presentation is probably fine the way it is. Both breathing noises and sibilance (Essing) are...

Re: Chapter Editing (Audiobook) fails ACX Check

I did discover one Mastering oddity. When I run the Limiter, the values in the boxes don't always stick. I just in the last hour sent a short sound clip through and afterward, it failed peak!!! I stepped back over the process and Limiter had reset itself to -3.0dB as a target instead of -3.5dB. I di...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter

I sent the last one through Audiobook Mastering and treated it to 6dB noise reduction. First three readings and sentence 2/3 down. Screen Shot 2019-04-02 at 15.15.30.png The first one, Koz100 has very serious hum. That can be patched, but the corrections delete some musical tones from your voice and...

they are imported correctly. Also an older iTunes, right? One workaround is convert the work to uncompressed, lossless WAV and import those. You can steer iTunes to import different formats and it will compress the work back down. There was also the possibility (from one post) to import the work, t...

Re: Locked Microphone Level

All the paces to control volume are zeroed out when you connect a USB sound device.

We probably shouldn't go much further until we know what the model number is.
