Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
Yeah. I like the DeEssed version. Add that to the protocol. I think you can still get through the whole correction suite in jig time. You get used to applying the tools and where everything is. Most of the tool settings stick, so you can jump from one tool to the other. The tools will take longer if...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
And yes, this is where you listen to both clips on your excellent headphones or speakers to determine if the DeEsser is needed. It's a theatrical quality call. Both clips pass. Do you like the overall presentation? I do. If that's the voice reading, this should go through no problem. It's possible t...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
If you're still eager to mess with it more, you could apply the DeEsser. This helps tame the harsh SS sounds at the beginnings and endings of words. This is a copy of that clip with gentle DeEssing applied after Mastering and Noise Reduction. test135Mastered-NR-DeEsser.wav These are the DeEsser sett...

test135MasteredAndNR866.wav Screen Shot 2019-04-05 at 20.18.27.png Aaaaaand. We're done. Starting with your post, I applied normal Audiobook Mastering and then added noise reduction at 866 (slightly stiffer than 666). This is expected because the SM57 has "gentle" volume and needs the X2U...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
Excellent. That's what I was looking for. That's a terrific presenting voice. I need to spend some quality time with good headphones and see what turns up. I'll publish what I did to it and present examples, but you need to be able to listen to it with high quality speakers or headphones. Did we eve...

Re: Recover deleted audio from unsaved project
I'm not sure I followed that, but there are a couple of rules. When you close Audacity, it wipes the UNDO. There is no such thing as Edit > UNDO when you open a show cold. Was there a Time Machine backup between the time you read and you realized there were parts missing? That's your only hope. Do y...

Re: Edit a lecture/seminar
Sense the instrumentation can be classified as a background noise Effect > Noise Reduction only works on sound that doesn't change over time such as air conditioning, computer fan, or electrical hum or buzz. It does not work if you leave the TV on in the background or try to pull a voice out of oth...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
Here it is. This one's much more graceful. It's an MP3 because it's too long for a WAV. It goes off the rails at about a minute.
That's more the story-teller flow you have to generate.

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
Like this only we assume you'll be a lot better at it than I am. HudsonValleyH4Mastered.wav And yes, it passes ACX Check nicely and I didn't go to a lot of craziness to get it there. Eventually I need to do one of these that doesn't sound like I'm learning to read for the first time. I have one from...

Re: Bad Background Hum with SM57 & X2U Adapter
we would like to add in post production a low, background ambient-style music track, possibly bringing it up a bit in between the vocal parts to delineate sections In a word. no. You are not producing Radio Theater [Tum Tum Tummmmmmmmm] That's a "stinger" if you're keeping count. That mus...
