Re: de-breathing
Some performers have found Noise Gate valuable. It's a tool that waits for the volume to decrease to a set value and then either dumps it or greatly reduces the volume. Oddly, it's most effective when it's not needed. If the breath noises are loud enough, they never trigger the gate. It's difficult ...

Re: de-breathing
There are automatic tools that can help with some vocal problems...sometimes, but if you have a performer with an actual damaged voice, then you're stuck.because it takes a long time to do it this way

Re: Need to record voicemails for personal archive - please help!
The only issue is that it didn't work at all. It wouldn't. The Mini is the only Mac I know of that still has an analog stereo connection. Do you have any Thunderbolt to USB adapters? You could try a Behringer UCA-202. Plugged in to the thunderbgolt adapter, that would give you analog stereo line-in...

Re: Song doesn't start immediately when pressing Space
I think that's an important clue. A virus or protection program would inspect and log the work and then after that, would "know" what it was and not interfere. If you stop and "restart" it, it doesn't happen again?
Take the machine off-line and disable virus protection?

Re: interface question!!!
What do the Audacity blue waves look like? The tips of the waves are supposed to settle in at about 50% and the bouncing sound meter at around -6dB.it seems to be recording ok

What do you have?

Re: Garbled recordings on new Mac
Do you have a Solid State Drive? I have for several years and machines. One of the Systems Operators at work and I had very similar Mackbook Pro machines except he had spinning metal and I had an SSD. I had to do a quick process on his machine (with his permission) and I thought it was broken. I cou...

Re: Garbled recordings on new Mac
Hearing is believing... Oh, I do believe you. I had a Mac do something like that on a simple recording several years ago. It split up the sound and recorded some here, some there, mostly overlapped. Only did it once. Besides you wouldn't get very far. The data limit on postings is 2MB. That works o...

Re: Niquist ACX check nightmare
I'm just reading over that again. ACX Check doesn't affect the sound. It's just the measuring service. We publish a Mastering suite, but ACX Check is part of that process, so if you can't get it to work now, the larger tools aren't going to do you much good. Are you using someone else's mastering pr...

Re: Song doesn't start immediately when pressing Space
But if you cut some pieces out of the file then it happens (sometimes) again? What Steve said. When you make a change, Audacity tries to save UNDO, which is the whole show to drive. So the show size just doubled. Do you have a Solid State Drive? Those are blisteringly fast compared to spinning meta...
