Re: I am dumb with Audacity
That creaking sound is the can of worms opening up. Some of the better podcasts match the background music to the narration including start and stop points. That's not easy. You can't easily change the music, so you might want to add a word or two to make it come out even. But re-recording narration...

Re: Normalize weirdness?
There's two Normalizes. The regular one works like what you probably want. But there's also RMS Normalize. That one only affects loudness, not peaks. That one can give you wacky peaks like you have. You might consider Effect > Amplify. That one has two settings, one for how much boost you want and a...

Re: Noise reduction effect.
If you apply Noise Reduction once in your performance, how does the software know you want to apply it again? Programs have to start somewhere. When you get to the end of your show, you run a program that reminds you to apply Noise Reduction. No? How about every day at 4PM (1600 hours) is reminds yo...

Re: Niquist ACX check nightmare
We publish a Mastering Suite of tools that guarantee Peak and RMS (loudness) no matter where you start. The only variable after that is noise and that's where most home users fall over. If you have ordinary, spring rain in the trees hiss, it's likely coming from the microphone system. Microphones, t...

Re: Garbled recordings on new Mac
I'm beginning to see the wisdom of another fuzzy rule. If you spend more than about two or three weeks flogging your computer to record sound, stop using your computer to record sound. There are a number of stand-alone sound recorders out there and they have few if any of the problems computers do. ...

Twilight-Zone condition I think I still have a login over on the Final Cut forum. If anything, the video people have even more sticky problems than we do. Each time either the OS or the program went to an upgrade to improve stability with better data management, there was a tiny cadre that would po...

Re: How to recover a file from a computer restart.
As a fuzzy rule, closing Audacity clears all the caches and temporary storage.
But yours didn't close, it crashed......
Do we know why it crashed? The machine didn't go away, right, Audacity either vanished or froze? How long was the show?

Re: ACX-check not appearing
I can't get Audacity to recognize that the file is in the plug-ins folder. We need to resolve that first, because the rest of the process has other plugins. Right-Click or Control-Tap the file > Get INFO. Scroll down to the actual filename. Is it what you are expecting? Screen Shot 2019-05-01 at 13...

Re: Noise reduction effect.
There is a lot of talk about how to make Noise Reduction one step instead of two. No luck so far.
There are ways to make simple noise reduction like your cellphone does, but nobody wants their show to sound like a cellphone.

Re: Appears to be recording, but no sound on playback
Unplug the cassette machine and associated cables. Sometimes Windows will try to send sound back out to where it came from.
Go into Audacity > Preferences > Devices and make sure Audacity is trying to play to your machine speakers.
