Re: Moved Recording Spaces....Now what??
As Trebor above, many home microphones have thunder and rumble you can't hear...but the software can. Use the recommended process. So that's how to patch what you have and how it's most likely not to have this problem in the future. If you export WAV copies of your raw readings (as is recommended) y...

Re: Moved Recording Spaces....Now what??
You really want to get those steps in the right order. They clean up after each other. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_Mastering I applied 5dB of simple volume boost to Chapter 9 with Effect > Amplify: Amplification 5 > OK, and they seem to match. I can't tell which I'm listening to any...

Re: compressor is compressing below the floor
It will do exactly that if your voice got quieter. Get closer to the microphone and/or announce louder. It wouldn't take much. Chris is acting as a noise gate and they are notoriously difficult to use or adjust. If your voice gets too quiet and too close to the volume of the noise, the software will...

Re: Error message when trying to enable ACX check
See if that works any better.
ACX Check is the shortcut tool. You don't have to do it that way. You can use the legacy tools.

It works, but it's pretty painful. That's why we wrote ACX Check.

Re: Pitch Correction
Effect > Change Pitch? You are warned that Change Pitch only works well over a limited number of notes, like maybe 2 or 3. Not all parts of your voice change when your pitch goes up and down. For example, if a large man and my kid sister whispered at you, you may not be able to tell who's who. But t...

then allowing a "find" to go along the audio to locate the next similar spectrum Let's see if you can do it. Flip the timeline to Spectrogram view using the drop-down on the left. Now find one of the Umms and look at the spectrum. Now whip down the show looking for the same colors in the ...

Re: Audacity will not record in mono using mic
I think it's fighting with your other sound apps. Do you have Skype or other chat, conference or communications programs? Games? Do you frequently copy or download music or shows from YouTube or other on-line provider. Some of these services can survive restart. See how many little lights you have u...

Re: Installing Audacity with custom settings
What's the actual job? 8000 is a typical standard for telephone answering systems and voice prompts. "Press four if you're calling from a rotary-dial telephone." If that's the job, then you're stuck, although I would still record high quality and make their lower quality product later. You...

Re: Installing Audacity with custom settings
I know you don't need any more posts like this, but 8000 sample rate is just slightly better quality than AM radio. Recording original speech that way is not recommended. You can make 8000 later if you have to with the possibility of less sound damage.

Re: Niquist ACX check nightmare
Are they really noise free? I suspect that really means they deliver a noise-free show which, since nobody can actually do that, means they automatically apply noise reduction and noise gating. ACX (if that's your goal) is looking for those because they can create sound damage if badly applied. Zoo...
