I bet you're wondering why on earth would we do that?
For one example, the recommended audiobook mastering protocol sometimes causes intentional peak distortion which is recoverable to clear sound because of this double conversion process.

Re: noise added above 13 kHz
Audacity adds a dither signal to outgoing WAV, AIFF and probably others unless you stop it. It helps mask downconverting distortion from Audacity's super high quality internal format to "normal" uncompressed formats. You can stop it from happening in Preferences, however, you might get sta...

Re: How to record in audacity without pulling out each of my hairs
Start A New Track used to be the Audacity default. Everybody with a pulse complained they were expecting the old track to get longer, so that is the new default. As Trebor says above, you can change it to either one and the setting is sticky.

Re: Internal Speakers not working all of a sudden
Do you get the Poit Poit Poit when you tap the volume up and down? Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound > Output. See where the Mac thinks the sound is going. If you use the headphone connection, it's normal for that to take over from the speakers. Sometimes it's best to disconnect all th...

Audacity has no good tools to change a voice into a different voice.

Re: compressor is compressing below the floor
If you are referring to noise gate falloff No. I'm referring to talking louder, even if only as an experiment. If you lean into a recording just slightly as a test and suddenly all your problems vanish, then that's a terrific clue. Does anyone know a fix to this or what is causing it? Do you use an...

Re: How to quickly approximate a waveform?
There was a recent post from someone trying to pull bird vocalizations out of background noises and environment sounds. We weren't a lot of help. Audacity does have Menu on the left > Spectrogram View . That posts your timeline in colored patches according to Frequency versus Time instead of normal ...

Re: Cannot overdub
What he said. Plus, if you have a new microphone or microphone system, sometimes the machine will try to play existing tracks back to the microphone instead of your headphones. No that doesn't work. Check Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices: Playback that your playback is going to the right plac...

Re: compressor is compressing below the floor
Right. Chris works a lot like a broadcast compressor with overall Gain Control first and then applying specific corrections depending on your settings. The noise volume didn't change leaving voice volume.but it didn't help
I note that's the only thing you didn't change.
