Re: Low recording level with HDMI connection

High Definition Multimedia Interface is a new digital connection to your computer that wasn't there before. The computer might think it has to send the YouTube music all the way out to the HDMI monitor before it turns around and comes back for recording. That could mean your HDMI monitor volume cont...

Re: Low recording level with HDMI connection

When you record via loopback, the machine has to run the playback system (for the internet) and the record system (for Audacity) at the same time and arrange a place for the signal to "turn around." When you introduce an additional digital pathway, apparently, that turn around place gets d...

Re: Too compressed Rejection

It is possible to record in a difficult room, but it's not cheap. You can use special shotgun microphones. That's what this guy is doing. That's many hundreds of dollars.

Re: Problems using 2 Yeti Blue USB mics at once in Audacity on a MacBook

TomScottKitchenShoot3.jpg Yes, it is overkill, but it's a video podcast (Citation Needed) and each player has a camera and a separate microphone. And yes, they do that clap thing at the beginning so the editor has some chance of getting it all together for the final edit. https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Re: Problems using 2 Yeti Blue USB mics at once in Audacity on a MacBook

it sounds way better with the two mics than it did with one. It would, yes. Particularly if you have a live or echoey room. when I hit record, both mics started going and all was well. The sync problem might be very low if you have two of the same microphone with close serial numbers. Just remember...

Re: Too compressed Rejection

That's it. Turn on View > Show Clipping . Screen Shot 2019-05-13 at 3.58.58.png All those red bands are places where your voice is too loud. Overload like that sounds harsh and gritty. The whole sample you sent has that distortion. When you record, look at the Audacity bouncing green sound meter. It...

Re: "Banging" sound in background

That sounds like a production special effect
I didn't notice this before. It's in stereo. The left and right sounds don't match. Another reason to think it's intentional and just in the wrong place.

Re: Latency detection not under preferences

There's two latencys. Overdubbing latency is where your new performance doesn't line up with the backing track. That's the one you can help with the latency adjustment. If you have your headphones plugged into the computer and don't like the echo you get, that's machine latency and you're stuck with...

Re: "Banging" sound in background

Thanks for the help though! Don't give up so fast. Audacity doesn't apply effects, filters or corrections on record. Whatever comes down the wire is what gets recorded. The noises don't play in a different place each time. They are completely predictable on playback and they produce visible blue wa...

Re: Problems using 2 Yeti Blue USB mics at once in Audacity on a MacBook

If you go the two Mac route, do a sync clap at the beginning and the end. That will make lining up the two sound clips much easier. After you get one to work, you should be able to use the same values for Effect > Change Speed on all the shows after that, assuming you don't change microphones or Mac...
