Re: RMS clarification needed
Note the blue wave top and bottom sharp tips are more or less even over time and don't look like they were flattened and whacked off with a sharp axe. That's one of the reasons I sound more or less normal and not dense, compressed, harsh or gritty. That's why the tools for ACX Mastering were chosen....

Re: Severe Echo - can it be fixed?
Sorry. Missed a step. After you duplicate the track, Effect > Invert, so it's set to cancel.

Re: Severe Echo - can it be fixed?
No. Echoes are one of the four horsemen. One of the guaranteed ways to kill your show. You can try duplicating the track (Control-D) and then slide the new track later than the other with the Time Shift Tool (two sideways black arrows). Audacity will try to play both tracks together, so you can push...

Re: Too compressed Rejection
There is another problem with your recorder but I'm ignoring it. The recorder is MP3 only (one of the reasons it's so affordable) and has a maximum MP3 sound quality of 128. So far so good. That's the quality that ACX wants you to deliver. The problem is Audacity Mastering, or any correction lowers ...

Re: Too compressed Rejection
I could not tell from the Sony instructions how to set recording volume. They tell me there is another instruction manual inside the recorder and they do not publish it on-line. I know the volume control on the outside of the recorder is for playback. It says that. There is no mention of setting rec...

Re: Too compressed Rejection
What is that test before you did anything to it? We should hear the raw sound file.
Mastering hides sound damage and we don't know what to tell you if somethings goes wrong. The audiobook people are searching for performances that sound like somebody is trying to cover up damage.

Re: Noise floor too high (ACX) no matter what. Please help.
I can't hear it until the output volume is way up. Diving for noise doesn't count. If it's not audible at normal listening levels, chances are good it's OK. There are some noises where that doesn't work, but that's a rule of thumb. Clicking during recording can be very difficult to fix, and no, it'...

Re: Problem with tapering vocal waveforms
Where you wearing headphones during the capture? Depending on the setup, your microphone management system may be creating some of those problems. If you're doing a Skype interview, you always get the best sound if everybody is on headphones or earsets. Skype doesn't have as much work to do or corre...

I can't just ask her to re-record. Wouldn't do any good. If this is the headset system she uses all the time, chances are it's set up for auto everything: Auto Noise Reduction, Auto Gain Control, Audio Echo Suppression and probably more I haven't thought of. If the goal is simple communication or c...

Re: Audacity is already running...really??
You can't use the regular Mac tools. You have to use a system tool. Click on the desktop > Go (top menu bar) > Go To Folder and put this address in. Screen Shot 2019-05-14 at 09.32.26.png Then click audacity. ... delete the file "audacity.cfg". There is no point in trying to open it. Koz
