Re: Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
parentheses-based programming languages That's good. Can I use that? devs behind Audacity either want to improve it or they don't As you said at the beginning of this thread, you're using Audacity now and it's just inconvenient. The developers have a hierarchy of advances and changes starting with ...

Re: Can I recover? (AUP file is blank, .au files are silent)
Then that's the end of the world. Once the au files go silent...that's it. As your shows get longer and more complex, the more important that the machine shouldn't be doing anything else and there should be tons of room. Depending on the edit, Audacity forms UNDO by making a copy of the whole show ....

Re: Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
There's a note here. Audacity is widely used by people who want to create simple shows or do uncomplicated work even though they may own larger program licenses. It's far easier to do simple jobs in Audacity than to fire up a full-tilt-boogie Pro-Tools session. Sooner or later the two jobs complexit...

Re: Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
Honestly, I don't see why changing it to work that way wouldn't just be better for everyone. No question, but somebody has to program that and that's the exact point where it gets magic. Right now, the decision is "put it at bottom of the show at time zero or put it after the last track."...

Re: Tascam DP-24sd - Raising Volume
Recording works well I see the unit has record volume meters so you can set the performance level. Did you do that? I'm not happy that they are an option screen buried in all the other screens, but they do exist. If you have the performance volume set low, then that's why your volume is low in Auda...

This is what that device looks like in Audacity.
You should not have Playthrough selected in Audacity preferences.

Re: bleeding into tracks
If you like recording on-line or YouTube music, then you had to set up your machine to record its own playback. So that's what it's doing. Make sure Audacity is set to record from a real, physical thing, and not foldback, Stereo-Mix, What-U-Hear or other special "fake" device. I'm using on...

Re: Can I recover? (AUP file is blank, .au files are silent)
I was working on an AUP file and the program froze. You were working on a Project and the program froze. The AUP is the program manager text file. It's not sound. All the AUP file is going to do is point to the little AU fragments at the right time as you play the show. If the au pieces are silent,...

This may be hard to follow. These three will play and export as one continuous sound. And they're slightly sticky, so you don't have to guess where the line-up point is.
