Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
Why would you get a 4dB boost in background noise when you performed a Punch and Roll.......????? Can you shoot a test? You may have turned up an Audacity program error. Shoot a 20 second test just like you did the last one, but then go back about half-way and Punch and Roll a correction. I want to ...

Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
One of the reasons your knob has no numbers on it is you're not supposed to be paying attention to the numbers. The knob is in the right place when the show volume is perfect. The only time you get concerned is if the knob goes either direction too far. That can mean something is broken or connected...

Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
I bet you thought I was never going to address the actual question. I don't expect the Rode equipment to affect noise on its own, but you can get Windows to do all sorts of nasty tricks. This has the hallmarks of a Windows process trying to automatically set volume to "help you." I'm not a...

Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
The interface model number is the Rode A1-1. I did that, too. The actual part number characters are a-i-1. Audio Interface One. Don't feel bad. Some learned web pages got it wrong, too. Terrific voice. I couldn't help wondering what would happen if you did read the milk carton in full theater. You ...

Re: Clipping at 0.5/-0.5
Is your picture of their interface software or driver? That may be where some of this problem is coming from. It should be possible to read directly into Audacity with no software in the middle. Does the problem vanish if you set Audacity to record in Stereo (two blue waves)? Yes, you will get two d...

Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
Did you post and pass a quality test with ACX? They allow you to post a short test presentation which does two immediate things. It lets them inspect your technical and theatrical quality (those are different) and your ability to follow instructions. That last is not obvious. You're supposed to post...

Re: Changes in noisefloor during recording
Where is the interface? The connection between the microphone and the interface is three-pin XLR, right? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/XLR-Cable-500.jpg That is designed to go relatively long distances with no ill effects. You may have gotten a 20 foot microphone cable with the interface. That'...

Re: Clipping at 0.5/-0.5
Our first problem is the instruction manual on-line isn't for the device in your picture.

Re: Moved Project Data Folder
Yesterday I moved all the files to my Documents There is a silly joke about this. Only the obsessively neat people get nailed with this problem. There is a much more serious possibility. Did this particular show open before you moved it? A desperation diagnostic is to drill down into the _DATA fold...

Re: Moved Project Data Folder
Do not, ever, change the names of either the AUP file or the _DATA folder. You can open the AUP file in a text editor (don't save anything) and read what the original name was. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/aupFileGraphic-redbox.jpg Yes, as long as the two parts are sitting right next to each o...
