Re: Losing first ~90% of data
It's a good idea on important shows to double record. This is a broadcast radio interview. I'm on the left with Audacity and the setup on the right is the performer's backup recorder. Both sound files survived very well. We sent my files to the client. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/JMASound...

Re: Losing first ~90% of data
I've been recording a podcast with a couple friends Where are the friends? Across the table or several time zones away? It's not the best idea to time share Audacity with other communications or conferencing programs, even games. Skype in particular "does not play well with others." Could...

Re: Media Info doesn't match Format Options selected for Exported MP3's
CD quality is 1411 to keep it in the same measurement standard. Also important: WAV stays there. As you edit and export new MP3s, the quality goes down. Every time you export a new one, it also exports the previous export compression errors.

Re: How to default open Fit to Width
Control-F Full (on my Mac it's Command-F). I use that and two other zoom controls constantly: Drag-select something and Control-E (Zoom to sElection) and Zoom out a little bit Control-3. That last one is an extracted piece of a much larger collection of tools. https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/zoo...

Re: How does ACX check evaluate noise level?
We should remember that ACX has two limits and one goal. Peaks no louder than -3dB and noise no louder than -60dB. RMS (loudness) is the only goal. You have to hit that between -18dB and -23dB.

Re: Why has ACX rejected for Noise Floor?
There is a Conspiracy Theory version of this. We know everybody with a pulse is trying to read for audiobooks. I can well imagine Human Quality Control after 8 hours of listening to badly behaved microphones in noisy, echo-filled rooms hyperventilating and losing it after a while. Since everybody al...

Re: Why has ACX rejected for Noise Floor?
There is too much processing. There is the "Blackness Of Space" silence between each word and in some cases I can hear odd tails on the words. We know they test for background noise and then start getting critical for sound quality if they find "odd" readings—such as noise suspic...

Re: Niquist ACX check nightmare
From the beginning. You have the Neewer plugged into the UM2 with a 3-pin XLR cable similar to this, right? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/XLR-Cable-500.jpg Turn up knob one—all the way—and knobs two and three down. Stop listening on the headphones. Just put them on the desk. Do you have the +48...

If that didn't work, then we need to analyze what happened. You are replacing the studio and experienced recording engineer.

Re: Why has ACX rejected for Noise Floor?
I have written back to ACX to ask if they can tell me what I have to do You may not get a reply. Their job is to insure high quality work for their platform, not do detailed analysis and servicing. Most of the world is trying to read for audiobooks and their quality control offices are overloaded. ...
