The grayed out area is the selection. What do you think the selection is? What was the goal again?

Re: Audacity SUPER weird error that I can’t figure out...
I record speeches and music, and today I finished two projects. Those are two different things. It's record Speeches and Music and export WAV protection copies. Then produce the project. It's a New User error to record original content, edit that exact same content and export the finished work. Any...

Re: De-clicker effect question
I think I'd be much more interested in experiencing the work before you applied any effects or corrections. We can't take corrections out of a performance, so you are basically hiding the original problem from us. 1. Record in audacity (export to wav) That one right there. Clicking is not normal beh...

Re: using Audacity 2.3.2 to create a three hour radio show
No. We can manage the sound show (although I would do it in one-hour chunks rather than one three hour file). I'm more than even sure logging and metadata is not available. Someone will argue with me. Some of that can be done with timeline Labels ... https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/label_tracks....

Re: Tracks silenced after audacity crash!
and exported If you exported the first song, then you have the WAV version around somewhere, right? That may be your backup of the first song. If your project save crashed and you were "updating" the original project, then both may be gone. If you do this project again, the second save sh...

Re: Delay in Vocal
If your voice track doesn't match the music on playback , then you probably have the Recording Latency set wrong. Generate > Click Track. Make sure it's the click version that goes TICK pook pook pook TICK pook pook pook TICK... Play that as your backing track in overdubbing and jam your headphones ...

Re: Hissing Noise with Shure SM7B
One other note. The SM7B is a Dynamic (moving coil) microphone and does not take phantom power (48v), but the Lifter does. So if you take the Lifter out, you should turn Phantom Power off.

You could be listening wrong. You're not supposed to be "Diving for Noise." If you produce a forum test sound clip from here ... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html ... and apply the audiobook mastering from here ... https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_M...

Re: newbie - usb recording
It's possible to record multi-track in Audacity. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=38626 But. What usually happens is the data stream arrives as clutches of stereo tracks. So you can record Tracks One and Two—or—Tracks Three and Four—or—Tracks Five and Six, etc. I think it's dr...
