Re: Advice on cleaning up audio
Any advice on cleaning this up? If it's important enough, Hollywood has a solution. Type out the words and the original performer performs the words in a studio environment. If that seems pretty extreme, nobody is going to give up a multi-million dollar movie because a microphone failed at the wron...

Re: First sample recording for ACX
Microphone kit. Fascinating. Whip out your soldering station and go to town. Make sure and get the electrolytics the right way 'round. Its insanely hard not making any noise for any length of time. Right? Nobody has any real feel for environment noise being 1000 times quieter than your voice (-60dB)...

Re: Trouble with 10.15 Catalina

Re: Trouble with 10.15 Catalina
The latest Audacity is 2.3.2 and works in 64-bit to be compatible with newer Macs. Fair warning that it doesn't need Lame and your FFMpeg is going to be out of date.

Re: First sample recording for ACX
I try not to be an accelerating observer. It makes my ears pop and it annoys the cat. I'm still not in a quiet room, but I stopped to see what the clip was. It passes ACX standards handily and seems to be good to go. I'll need to get time with my office sound system to check the finer details, but t...

Re: First sample recording for ACX
I hope it was okay to delete a few seconds before I start speaking. We use the first two seconds of you not talking room sound to process and inspect your background noise. There is actually a format for that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html I'm not in a quiet environ...

Re: Do you all think this is "too much" echo for ACX standards?
ACX QA will hate the reverb too much? They don't really talk about reverb on their blog. They do obliquely. They expect your voice to be clear and understandable and sound like you're sitting next to them telling a fascinating story. Not announcing in a bathroom or barn. They hate distractions (the...

Re: Do you all think this is "too much" echo for ACX standards?
Does your recording system have a 100Hz rumble filter? Unedited shows evidence of voice processing. Did you throw the equalizer in there before you posted the clip? Anyway Unedited is within range of normal noise reduction. If you can get rid of the room echo, you should be good to go without the To...

Re: Do you all think this is "too much" echo for ACX standards?
Unedited That's recording in a large empty room with wooden floors and a waterfall. There's no good "clean" way to suppress big room echoes, and background noise that loud is going to cause voice edge problems. The volume is right. Lots of people get that wrong. You have the mastering ord...

Re: Do you all think this is "too much" echo for ACX standards?
embarrassed to admit that for the first 2 books, I opted to record in my car in the garage Stop being embarrassed. I got a terrific voice clip from one of the helpers at work and I asked him how he did it. "My Toyota," he said. I need to stop and listen. Recording at home can have all sor...
