Re: Clipped at .5

pre amp fell off the table. Whose name and model number is?? I've replaced the preamp With one of exactly the same make and model? This is important because some preamps will switch between stereo and mono gracefully, and some don't. You should dig in the Windows control panels and see if there is ...

Re: I think I've messed it up again - please help!

The two ends seem to match OK.

That can be one of the problems with new users. You start a book as a beginner and finish a seasoned professional...and the two ends don't match at all.

This one seems to work.

Congratulations on your publication.

Re: Increasing volume through multiple amplify and normalize effects

There is another variation on this. Chris' Compressor was designed to mimic broadcast compressors and processors so Chris could listen to opera in the car. https://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ I change the first number, Compress Ratio from the default 0.5 t...

Re: Increasing volume through multiple amplify and normalize effects

You might like RMS Normalize rather than "straight" Normalize . https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=325078#p325078 This was designed to satisfy the audiobook requirement of maintaining a stiff standard for volume (roughly RMS) which normal Normalize won't do since both it and Am...

Re: Problems Converting a MP3 or WAV file from 128 kbps to 64 kbps

There is one other problem with this idea. When you make an MP3, you get two things: the original show plus compression damage. When you make a second file, the software is working on the show plus the damage, making it worse. Typically this process doesn't survive three passes. You may have a sound...

Re: How to create a 42dBa sine wave

I'm trying to confirm the calibration of the Decibel app on my iPhone.
There is one oddball thing you can do. Compare two iPhones. If they're wildly different then the whole premise is rubbish.

Re: How to create a 42dBa sine wave

To check your sound level meter, start with a sound level meter. Radio Shack had multiple versions right up to the end. http://kozco.com/pix/SoundLevelMeter.jpg I can usually come up with a shortcut using commonly available tools or parts—such as creating white noise by crushing a newspaper page—but...
