Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC
Don't fall into that "if only I had a better microphone" thing. Each microphone has it's strengths and weaknesses and each interface has a personality. Let's get one thing working first. And when you do get something working Do No Change Anything during a book reading. ACX wants all the se...

Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC
That's right down there in the noise, isn't it? I think your worst problem may be the effect going on and off.
Try the book and towel thing and then post a forum voice test.

Re: Microphone picking up neighbor's AC
If you can't hear it In Real Life, then it may be coming up through the floor/desk. My little air conditioner used to shake the house. Are you using the standard Snowball desk mount? Try adding the Book/Towel option. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MicBookTowel-500t.jpg Make sure the USB cable is...

Re: Volume Threshold?
Word of warning. If the screams are loud enough, they're also distorted. Compressors, no matter where they come from, are not going to fix that. The best you can do is gritty, harsh screams at the perfect volume.

Re: Volume Threshold?
You can try messing with the compressors and limiters if you want, but Chris's Compressor was designed to do what you want. He designed his integrated compressor to "even out" opera so he could listen in the car. https://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacit...

Re: burned CD from Audacity is loaded with noise
Software players have a progress bar and you can grab the bar and push backwards if you miss something. DVD players work that way, too.

Re: burned CD from Audacity is loaded with noise
If you are using a CD player and "miss" something the speaker says due to being distracted, etc., you can't "rewind" like you did on a casette player to listen to that little bit again Yeah you can. Press and hold the forward or backward buttons and they should scan forward or b...

Re: burned CD from Audacity is loaded with noise
In the case of a Mac, you create an iTunes Playlist and pile in all your songs or segments in the order you want them to play. A Playlist will allow you to use any order, it doesn't have to be alphabetic. Picture 3.png Picture 4.png Then burn. I moved from the Land of Windows before Windows Media ca...

Re: burned CD from Audacity is loaded with noise
doesn't their computer also have to have Audacity downloaded on it? Export your work as either WAV or MP3 and take that over. If it's Windows, Windows Media should be able to handle it and for Mac, iTunes. Please note the goal is not to burn stuff across the street forever. This is a diagnostic mea...

Re: Gauge for volume up or down
there would be a gauge or some kind to show how much above the original 91.0db Probably not, because there is no 91dB inside Audacity. You can gauge a loudness change by measuring before and after RMS. Select the work and Analyze > Contrast > Measure Selection. Loudness and RMS correlate reasonably...
