Re: Audacity just crashes when adding an effect
You can try the Burn It Off and Hose It Down method. Disconnect the network or shut down WiFi, or both. Do you have any BlueTooth equipment? Can you shut that down? Clean Shutdown the machine. Shift-Shutdown. Not Shutdown or Restart . Wait for it to complete scrubbing all the trash, wait a bit more ...

Re: change my voice to make it become a child
I don't think you can do that in Audacity. Voice Changing is a very specific tool because all the tones in a voice don't change when you move gender or age. The overly simplified method gives you space alien, muffled, compression distortion or talking into a wine glass sound. That's the base problem...

Re: When I try to load a recording, it says the files are missing. They're not.
I think you're talking about two different things. If the file system becomes damaged, Audacity will just drop-dead fail: "Unable to find the _DATA folder." Full Stop. Orphan files means parts of the show are damaged and Audacity will volunteer to try to patch it together with whatever is ...

Re: ACX audiobook: hiss / whine from my laptop's wheezy fan
Should I even bother going on with this book at this point? My opinion is no. ACX has rejected your work and it's a good bet we know why. I was just now thinking about this as the sun came up. You were reading the work on the computer screen, right? You can totally do that, but not with a noisy com...

Re: ACX audiobook: hiss / whine from my laptop's wheezy fan
I think it's almost 100% certain that's why you failed noise. You didn't fail technical testing, you failed human quality control which comes later. The human heard that whine and said.....No.

Re: ACX audiobook: hiss / whine from my laptop's wheezy fan
Which microphone are you using? Directional microphones can have a nice, dead spot directly behind the place where you talk. Make sure the computer is in that dead spot. Throw towels or blankets on the desk to avoid slap reflections and comb filter effects. You can ignore everything but that folded-...

Re: ACX audiobook: hiss / whine from my laptop's wheezy fan
Before I get into the thunder and lighning, you need to separate yourself from the computer noise. Even with it doing well, and normally mastered, I can still hear that whine in the background. If it gets worse you will need to stop recording until it gets better again. I have played tricks with bla...

Re: How can I record only mic and no computer/system sounds (Windows 10)
Do you regularly record Youtube sound or on-line podcasts or presentations? That's the setting causing this problem. Normal computers will not easily record their own playback. Look at the Audacity recording window and make sure you're trying to record from your microphone and not a magic software s...

Re: Camera Audio not in sync with Tascam DR-05
We should be clear that a fast show means the recorder/camera was recording slow. A slow-mo recording means they overcranked the camera.

Re: Camera Audio not in sync with Tascam DR-05
If you know what the error amount is, you can most likely fix a bad shoot in post with Effect > Change Speed. the issue has just started. That's the hard part. Getting stuff out of sync is a snap. Doing it Just Recently is much harder. Shoot a picture/sound test with two clapboards, one at the begin...
