Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
In case I sailed right over that. Start with the raw reading about the volume you posted. Apply the Mastering Suite: Equalization, RMS Normalize and Limiter. Then Noise Reduction of the Beast and Noise Gate at the posted settings. Then go lie down for a while. Do that every chapter. Gate comes with ...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
It's a posted plugin you have to install. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Limiter_.282.29 I got the work through by applying two gentle corrections (Noise Reduction and Noise Gate) instead of trying to make one correction do all the heavy lifting. The gate settings are fro...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
There was a note from another poster some time ago. They used Noise Gate, so I tried it. I got the clip to pass without doing any obvious damage. Screen Shot 2019-10-15 at 7.22.36.png These are the settings. Apply after Noise reduction of the beast (6, 6, 6). Screen Shot 2019-10-15 at 7.20.59.png Yo...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
The 120Hz tone is back. The clip passes with a bare -61.5dB after noise reduction. Are you keeping track of the times you're doing these tests? I don't think the noise is coming from you. This smacks of building or environment issues. This is exactly what Ian was running into. "Try a taller sto...

Re: Audiobook mastering (In Development and Test)
It's remotely possible your presentation didn't need mastering. One of the suite's design goals was to create as little sound damage as possible, so with the exception of the equalizer, if the tools aren't needed, they just don't do anything. I would recommend applying the tools manually and watch w...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
Last Reading. As if by magic, the lamp dimmer tone is gone and you're back to ordinary fan noise. It's still too loud. With plain mastering I get noise of-59dB out of -60. I can get you really close with gentle Noise Reduction of the Beast 6, 6, 6. -64.8dB. That would probably make it through accept...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
Doesn't have to be dark. You can bring a regular flashlight in with you. It's only 20 seconds, right? The magic with regular tungsten incandescent lightbulbs is the dimmer. If you listen closely as you dim a bulb you can hear it go through different quiet tones as it gets dimmer and dimmer. Larger b...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
I did it twelve hours after the sample, so something was very different about the room's tonal quality in the morning versus the night. I was just coming around to the same thought. The background sounds in the test before this one do not match . If you can figure out what's happening between the R...

Re: Audio Sample: Noise Issues. (2.3.2)
I went ahead and used your tip on recording my best room tone and saving those WAV files and using them at the front of this file I wasn't emphatic enough about that. That's your barn room tone. You can use it in the presentations you do in the barn. It's not a license to use it anywhere you want. ...

Re: Any tips for recording rain
most of the sounds require "attribution" And all of that vanishes if you shoot it yourself. Recording can be environment dependent. Last time it rained here was, I think, January. Recording lawn sprinkers works. We got a lot of those. Nobody wrote the sound has to be the exact thing you p...
