Re: Following the cursor

the most up-to-date Audacity 2.3.2? Sometimes real numbers are valuable particularly if you're having trouble. Do you have your machine set to auto-update? We are finding that sometimes home computer systems are improved so much they stop working. Do you have more than one computer? There are ways ...

Re: Error when recording Audacity

What are you trying to record? You get an error if the show is not properly configured or not really available to Audacity.

Windows 10?

All that and I still can't whip up a way to scatter shot two Project files across one show. I mean I can, but it involves things like sector errors on the hard drive. It's basic: "I put stuff here on the drive and it's not here any more!" Besides being amazingly evil, it's also unstable. D...

Re: Which computer is best for Audacity?

The background noise specification for audiobooks is at least -60dB.
The didn't pick that number out of the air. That's the broadcast sound specification, too. A very common performance complaint is noise.

Re: Please help! 2 Separate chapters of audiobook have merged into one after a bug/system crash...

There's another trick to this. As you shut down, pay attention to the tiny spinning daisy. That's the mac cleaning up all the odds and ends in the system, trash and old coffee cups. The first time you do it, it may hang there for a good long while. Start and let the Mac settle down. The second time ...

Re: Please help! 2 Separate chapters of audiobook have merged into one after a bug/system crash...

AUP is not a sound file. It's a project manager. It tells Audacity what to do with all that stuff in the _DATA folder of the same name. That's where the pieces of sound are. You can have an unstable Mac if you never shut it down. I used to regularly get one of the managers at work out of trouble by ...

We do pretty well. We have forum helper elves over nine time zones and rarely take more than a day to respond to a question—unless you have a doozy. That may take a day or two.

Re: Playback sounds muffled but exported audio sounds fine

I'll listen again when I get back to the shop. What app are you using that sounds OK? What does that little playback window in Audacity say? Win7 had a Snipping Tool that would let you draw a circle around a part of the screen and make a jpg picture. Post it: Scroll down in a forum text window to wh...

i guess i have to re record? I think it's worse than that. Do you know why it happened? Audacity crashed or the Mac crashed? I think if you don't find something to fix, it's going to happen again. You didn't say if you were close to an Apple Genius Bar. Do you keep putting your Mac to sleep, or do ...

Re: Noise Reduction Issues

it eliminates the noise through the rest of the track. That would be nice but the reason it's called Noise Reduction instead of the old name, Noise Removal, is that everybody kept expecting it to remove all noise. It won't do that. A common setting is to reduce noise by half (6dB). There's little o...
