Re: Headroom and recording level

You need to pay attention to your environment and your performance. If you have a nice quiet room and you're announcing an audiobook, I like occasional voice peaks somewhere in the -10dB to -6dB range. This is visually handy because it's half-way up the size of the blue waves on the timeline. You sh...

Re: Recorded Audio LOST on ONLY 2nd Mono Track.

The warning is just guessing at it. The first suggestion may be more likely. Do you use Skype or other chat or conference program? Games? Macs like to make you think programs are closed but they're just "napping" in the doc, usually at the bottom of the screen. Audacity is running right hi...

Re: MIDI has no sound

Isn't Garageband another stand-alone audio production program? How would you like them linked?

Can you program in Garageband?

Why not do everything in Garageband?

GarageBand ... a full-featured recording studio — so you can make music ...

Re: Scrolling left and right in audio track

Jump to a specific time is one of the windows on the bottom of the display. Do you just want to slide the display left and right? Shift + Scroll Wheel. What makes me crazy is Audacity doesn't have markers. You can't Mark-In and have it stick right there while you go search for a Mark-Out point. We h...

Re: Nyquist Code for Multiplying Ch. A with Ch. B

Isn't that what Vocoder does? It combines two different instruments or voices in such a way to produce modulation.

Re: Mac Catalina update - Problem opening Audacity files

Your Audacity version has to be 2.3.2 or later for it to work in Catalina. https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/ This is a Project. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg Double click the AUP file and it should open Audacity and unscramble all the little AU files into yo...

Re: Is it possible to create audio map of volume?

If you have wild sound, also remember to "look ahead" to make sure the gate is already open when the first sound arrives. If you don't do that, you can have errors where the program chops off the first sounds of each word. The early broadcast gates had that problem. That's in addition to b...

Re: Is it possible to create audio map of volume?

I don't think Audacity has any tools which can do that.

Re: Is it possible to create audio map of volume?

Is there an actual sound job behind this? That's how Noise Gate works. It either passes sound or it doesn't. There's little or no middle-ground processing. Audacity is a sound or show manager. I don't know of any way to make Noise Gate tell us the state of what it's doing. Another problem with your ...

Re: Audacity is NOT recording after pressing the record button

You appear to be recording from the wrong source.
What he said. S/PDIF is a digital interface such as to a sound mixer or home music system. If it's turned off, Audacity would record nothing, or just stop working.
