Re: Limiting Peak Volume without affecting anything else

A word here. The harder and stiffer the limiting is, the more likely the correction itself is to be audible. Clipping, to use an extreme example, makes up its own harsh and unpleasant sounds not in the original performance. Dropping the cherry veneer on the table may not sound the same with stiffer ...

Re: How to set time format and db format

There is one display variation that Cool Edit does and Audacity does not. It displays the sound waves in percent (which Audacity can do now), but labels the waves in dB on the right side. If for no other good reason, that makes the bouncing sound meter and timeline waves match in measurement technol...

Re: Landing *JUST* outside of ACX requirements...

I sense from your post that you're not using Audiobook Mastering. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_Mastering The mastering tools guarantee RMS (loudness) and Peak. The only other variable (besides your voice) is noise. That gives you one thing to fix instead of chasing all three standard...

Re: Landing *JUST* outside of ACX requirements...

I think the biggest issue is internal noise generated by the condenser mic. If they both go up when you make that adjustment, then yes, the microphone is making its own noise and you reached the limit—or—you're amplifying the computer or environment noises. There is a little amplifier in the microp...

I think I'm late to the rodeo.
I'm chalking this up to coffee deprivation.

Re: Limiting Peak Volume without affecting anything else

The Newbie Woodworker I think I'm late to the rodeo. I still think there's no good way to combine live voice and a table saw or lumber wrangling. Those two microphones in the post are the best I can think of. There are microphones that try to automatically suppress or cancel noises in real time. The...

Re: Limiting Peak Volume without affecting anything else

I set tools down, or a block of wood, etc., I get these huge peaks. Which microphone are you using? I would try a lavalier (chest) microphone... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/lavalier2.jpg ...or a headset microphone. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/TED.jpg You could Hollywood it up. Do the ...

Re: How to get Vintage Sound on my Voice like...

We would probably have no trouble with the AM Radio tonal restriction and the very slightly fuzzy sound of old Ampex audio tape, but the deep, rich voice tones and perfect theatrical presentation is beyond us. The first is his throat construction and the second is acting. That voice and acting thing...

Re: Limiting Peak Volume without affecting anything else

Soft Limiter can be used to tame peaks without being audible and without affecting the sound on either side.

It can be used inside of a Macro.

I use it to limit voice peaks to -3.5dB. If you use it stronger you may be able to hear it working.

What's the job?
