Re: Mains hum: notch filter alternative?

Sorry but I'm not sure that I got it- if I reduce hum by the use of Audacity it should not be recommended or not be the purpose of Audacity? Or just that I should do it in a different step from recording? It's a very New User mistake to capture work, whether voice, live music or records and then ed...

Re: Mains hum: notch filter alternative?

This problem just screams the connections on the back of the cartridge are broken or loose. This is a decades old problem with turntables and even the most inexpensive ones have shields and connections to avoid it. Sound on a record isn't "normal." Big powerful low tones are suppressed so ...

Re: Project content gone? Error message about orphan files

So now you're going to make safety WAV backups of all your work, right?

The blue waves are made by a picture file. If it's damaged, the blue waves may go away and leave the music.

Re: Mains hum: notch filter alternative?

This is where you separate out each hum tone and harmonic overtone, and Nyquist your brains out to derive the exact anti-hum tone and then apply it in multiple passes to make sure it did a good job. How close are you to retirement? That will be a career move. I don't see this mentioned explicitly in...

Re: Mains hum: notch filter alternative?

If you follow the General Recommendations, you will be exporting your raw captures as WAV, hum and all, so you will be able to continue your recordings and try different fixes later. Audacity Projects are not recommended for this.

Re: Project content gone? Error message about orphan files

Are the other projects relatively normal Stereo (two blue waves) or Mono (one blue wave)? If so, it's a terrifically good idea to File > Export them as WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit for safety backup. Copy them Somewhere Else. The rule is to be able to point to two different places that have valuable work....

Re: How do I get rid of the hiss in my recording

We can't take a correction out of your work. So we have no idea how bad your voice was before you changed it. We need to hear a simple recording. Without knowing anything else, it sounds like you have a broken microphone. When you post back tell us the microphone you're using. Part and model numbers...

Re: recording from iPhone to audacity

I am using MacBook Pro
I am going to order UCA-202
You never said whether or not your Mac has USB-A connections. If it does, you're good to go. If not, you still have to order the adapter from USB-C or Thunderbolt whichever your Mac has.

Re: Need help fixing volume problems throughout an existing song

Good point. Those fiddles in the south forty really need to lean into it more. Chris's Compressor still works, right? I think the only thing we ever found that didn't work quite right was that business of adding a couple of seconds of sound before and after the actual show and then cutting it off la...
