Re: Can't Pass RMS No Matter What I Try
Now you know why many publishing tutorials start with, "Now that you have your sound file." Everything else I've read says the blue waves should rise about halfway and your meter should be in the yellow area. That's correct. The people with super tiny waves are making bad sound recordings ...

Re: Audio quality is reduced when converting
I used Powerpoint for the conversion, from an MP3 in to an MP4 file. Don't use MP3 in production. Try exporting the cassette capture as a perfect quality WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit file and then use that in the video generation. Google and see if you can talk PowerPoint into a higher quality. Both MP3 ...

Re: Can't Pass RMS No Matter What I Try
The specification is occasional peaks at -10db to -6dB (50% blue waves). That's where the Audacity bouncing sound meters start to turn yellow. That means maybe once every three or four minutes or so. Not constantly. The target for this goal is the new reader with a "restrained" microphone ...

Where did you see the older instructions? Is it still like that if you refresh the web page? In Firefox, it's the circular arrow upper left.
Post the location if it's broken.

Re: now that equalization is gone.....
There is a revised audiobook process. We are slowly cranking down through documentation to reflect these changes. This is in response to your other post.

Re: Guidance on ACX Check results
Reading for Audiobooks — Post Processing Export your raw reading as WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit before you do anything to it. The goal is to have a perfect quality WAV sound file of your work as a backup in case of accident or other damage. Edit a copy . Saving Audacity Projects is not recommended for t...

Re: Mastering process
Another way to get rid of tongue ticks and gasps is paste room tone over them. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=71556 This is a little weirdly named, but it grew out of a different tool and the name stuck. This does get you down to correcting your whole book or presentation wo...

Re: Mastering process
Low rolloff for speech is a rumble filter. The Mastering process is a suite of tools. A harmonious grouping. Low Rolloff cures a number of problems that home readers have. Many home microphones make rumble right out of the box and you have to get rid of it before any other tools. RMS Normalize and L...

Re: Audio critique? It sounds like I'm talking in a box.
If none of this produces a clear winner, you can try Effect > Bass and Treble... on your voice. Bump the Treble up 3dB to 6dB or so and listen.
That's the home version of the much more complicated tone controls and custom corrections.
