Re: Noise floor pass/fail/pass/pass
The Trebor picture above features the vibration and shock mount. The microphone is literally floating on rubber bands to keep mic stand, floor and desk vibrations away from the sound. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/AKGShockMount-500T.jpg I made one a bit ago from plumbing pipes and postal s...

The graphics in the instructions are no help. But if you dig enough. Re: Odds Qs about re-submitting for ACX
My opinion is ACX is going to say no. Can you imagine the fuss when somebody complains their audiobook purchase sounds worse than the one their neighbor bought? You can certainly reshoot it and fix it, but it's only going to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling—and it's not going to match your edit master...

Re: Trouble Hearing Playback from H4n Recording
Which H4n? Apparently there's two of them now.
Plug your headphones into the H4n. Play the work. Do you hear both performers?

Re: Noise floor pass/fail/pass/pass
Mastering with its three tools... Mastering.png followed by Noise Reduction of the beast (6, 6, 6). And as we constantly remind people who flop down on the sofa glad all that's over, that's only the technical part of the process. You still have to pass the theater part. At ACX, your submission goes ...

Re: Taking way too long to import
import a 27min mp3 file Since Audacity doesn't edit MP3, what that really means is Audacity is converting your MP3 to its own very high quality internal format and opening that. So depending on the compression of the MP3, the actual file may be very much larger than you think it should be and there...

Re: Noise floor pass/fail/pass/pass
Audacity sample.wav 843 does not have the 544 tone there any more. That's the laptop fans, right? 120 tones are still there. I applied Mastering and Noise Reduction and got the work to pass with reasonable elbow room. Screen Shot 2020-01-16 at 1.34.01.png I'd probably go with that and stop trying t...

Re: Noise floor pass/fail/pass/pass
No. Wait. That's from 13jan.... Anyway, that's the analysis with the two noise tones in there. The 544 thing is probably your laptop fan noises and it's not very loud. The 120 may very well be your monitors. Jury's out. There are other analysis things you can do. I can't make out the microphone, but...

Re: Noise floor pass/fail/pass/pass
is there a way I can check on my own in the future? I did it with Analyze > Plot Spectrum . That's also what Trebor is doing with that flashing display where the blue blobs on the left vanish. That reflects what Low Rolloff for Speech does. Most of the stuff to the left of 100Hz goes away. That's w...

Re: How do I lower my noise floor?
We're coming down the home stretch in a sister forum posting to yours. We're pretty sure her noises are coming from the laptop cooling fan and radiation hum from her large display monitors. Two different noises. If anybody tries to tell you how easy it is to record your voice at home, you can guffaw...
