Re: Removing drums from audio..

Removing vocals from a song only happens in a very tight series of conditions. The show must be in stereo, the vocal talent must be in mono and exactly in the middle of the stereo field, and the resulting vocal-less performance is now in mono. What the software does is electrically invert one side (...

Re: Audacity is killing my hard drive. I think.

I'd give anything if that third view has been wide enough to give me the file extensions. You do have View File Extensions turned on, right? Had those been wave files, I bet they would have been OK. I'm betting they're MP3 files and Windows Media Player has Taken Possession. "You can't be trust...

Re: turntable playing fast...

OK. Where to go from here.

Is it possible to try the TT on a different computer? That will reduce a computer setup problem possibility to almost zero if it does the same thing wrong.

Re: Haaalp! I'm stupid!

It's "Stupit." OK, one at a time. You're recording this with the built-in microphone on your iBook, right? You went into Apple, System Preferences, Sound and saw the blinking lights. You launched Audacity. Somewhere in the middle of the top banner is said "Default Input Source." ...

You didn't send 48:16:2 WAV files, did you?

Re: LameLib

I think I got it.

Did you uncompress the Lame Library file? It comes down as a protected and compressed file and must be decompressed before you can use it or Audacity can see it.

One comes down as a ZIP type of file and the other a StuffIt.

<<<Twisting the belt will effectively shorten the belt and thus make the platter run a little fast >>> I can give you a grand theoretical argument about that, but lets see what the poster comes up with. Does this TT switch between 33 and 45? That would certainly do it--especially for a user that doe...

<<<I'm pretty sure that's not what is happening.>>> Yeah. I'm beginning to think that's not what's wrong either. Are you an administrator on your machine? Apple, System Preferences, Accounts. When was the last time you did a drive check on your machine? I'm particularly interested in the Permissions...

Re: How to "normalize" volume of voices?

Sure. Select the whole lecture and use Effects, Compressor. Tuning those things is something of an artform, but the idea is the quieter speaker is affected by the steeper gain curve and the louder speaker by the shallower curve, thus evening them out. You will have to mess with the controls a bit be...
