I have used Lame in the wild on a UNIX machine and I know there are hundreds of compression options over the one or two that Audacity provides. I also suspect there is a way to get Audacity to increase the number of Lame tools available.
How?

Re: smallest mp3 file size
I will admit I can't find some of the information I'm after. Audacity uses the Open Source Lame Library tools to produce MP3s from Audacity's product. Audacity defaults to giving you one or two MP3 options, but the Lame Library as it is written contains hundreds of variable options. I also know ther...

Re: Export to MP3
Just to cover the bases, you downloaded the latest lame library file for your version of Audacity, decompressed it, installed it, and then Audacity still couldn't use it? You did all those steps? Did your library file come down as a ZIP file or a StuffIt file? Do you still have it there or did you d...

Re: maybe i was unclear
Did you try any of the search tools? Make a short MP3 and call it something crazy. Then search the machine for that name. In Apple, it's Apple-F and in Windows it's right-clicking on a drive icon, then Search.

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!
I do that all the time. What you're actually recording is the little microphone in the top of your PowerBook. Open the Apple Preferences and tell it to switch to the 'Line In' instead of the built-in microphone. It's the preference with the little speaker icon. And next time post this in the Mac sec...

Re: selecting input & output
Input and output? You want to send audio back out to the turntable? Can you split them? Audio output should go to the internal speakers (usually default device) or headphone.

Re: Unable to play tracks
This will be entirely useless information, but the "L" key will cause looping playback. It's a keyboard shortcut.

Re: Reducing Base In Wave File.
The bad news is I don't think you can recover the sound track. I don't hear "straight" bass being too loud. I hear severe distortion either caused by the microphone overloading or the electronics right behind the microphone biting the big one. That's the clicking and pumping sound during t...

Re: Pre Record Audio Metering
<<<I think the meters should always monitor the currently selected recording source.>>> So do I, but they don't. ================================== Normally the meters are only active when you are playing or recording audio. However, you can also monitor input when you're not recording - to do this,...
