Re: Need advice about using noise reduction
There is a Feature Request to be able to save and manage a Profile directly. That seems a gift from the angels, but probably not because The Real World changes from day to day. All that ability would really do is create tons of forum posts about failed reduction. I can even predict what the forum re...

Re: Need advice about using noise reduction
You may join a list of people who want to automate Noise Reduction. Audacity can't "know" what noise is and the Profile step resists automatic execution. You can't easily have software that removes "everything I don't want" which is basically what you want. That's not to say you ...

Re: Severe Audio Drift Issues
You could still have a timing error, but it should be one single error and constant. Audacity > Effect > Change Speed. You should be able to discover the error over an hour show or test and use one correction no matter how long the show is. For example, if one track is 0.3% off, it should stay 0.3% ...

Re: Severe Audio Drift Issues
Zoom H6, directly into Audacity Don't do that. Record on the H6 and transfer the sound file into Audacity. If you have timing errors or other damage, it's almost 100% certain it's not the H6. One of the recommended methods of recording sound is not use the computer. Whole pages of errors, oddities,...

Re: No Spikes are being shown when I speak.
You have an odd duck because the microphone didn't fail. It just works funny. Those can be a challenge. There is a possibility that it's not an Audacity problem at all. Audacity gets the sound from Windows, not the microphone. This will be an adventure because I'm not a Windows elf. Is there a speak...

Re: Need help hearing a voice on a recording
If these are both real-life people, there's a trick to it. Depending on your phone, the "performance" microphone is on the back (consult your instructions). Nobody will think twice about you holding a phone in one hand while you talk to someone. People hold them everywhere. See: stories of...

Re: Project won't open
Audacity was so easy before Catalina. My Apple Projection says nobody is working on Macs any more, so support for 32-bit apps vanished because nobody has time to deal with it. Any work that didn't come from the Apple Store is forbidden. That's the safest way with no troublesome decision trees and t...

Re: Project won't open
Part of recommended production hygiene is to File > Export a perfect quality WAV sound file in addition to saving the Project. That's the backup of the live performance if Something Goes Wrong. Did you use dates in the names? That can cause problems later when you want to edit. No slashmarks in file...

Re: Anti virus preventing audacity startup
As I understand it, the software license allows anyone to modify the Audacity code to do whatever they want. That's the Open Source thing. One of the problems with that is tracking the "real" Audacity code. When the Audacity developers issue a new version with patches and corrections, poof...
