Look at Audacity, Preferences, Audio I/O, Playback, Device. What does it say? Do you have more than one option?

Could this be something silly like you're running out of disk space? Do a right-click, Properties on your drives and see how full they are. No drive on a production machine should be much over 90% full.

The mixer output is line level. That's around 1000 times louder than the Mic In connection on the computer is expecting.
