Re: Splitting lyrics from the music
Download the Center Pan Remover plugin from the Audacity web site: http://audacityteam.org/download/nyquistplugins There is only one way to remove a vocal and that depends on a bunch of things being right. The original track must be stereo, the vocal must be dead center in the stereo field and have ...

<<<a few hours of technical support>>> You must be on a PC, right? <<<I've gotten rid of most of the errors now.>>> I'm more than passably interested in what those errors were. Most people's machines don't take hours of technical support. You may have an unstable machine causing other problems. <<<t...

Fine Tune Noise Removal
Ver 1.2.6 QT 7.2.0 OS-X 10.4.10 But I think this is a generic cross-platform problem. Any way to apply the Noise Removal tool gracefully? I pull a sample of Room Tone and when I try to apply it to my track, the correction slider goes from Too Much on the left to Completely Obliterate The Track on th...

Re: problems with recording
<<<The drivers should be written to fit the standards that Microsoft set up.>>> But if the device is cheap enough, you get 90% software. It work 90% of the time, done, out the door. But that still doesn't explain the problems on the Mac side. That system should be pretty well understood. Although ov...

Re: problems with recording
There are a lot. And I haven't been keeping track of what works. I can't get around the idea that people are buying a whole turntable and the digital services for the same cost that I used to pay for just the cartridge. You just can't do a good job for that money I don't care it was made in a fishin...

Re: recording 78s
The speed changed don't work awfully well the other way, either. Moving coil cartridges have the same problem that dynamic microphones do. Once the sound or vibration is going slow enough, they won't produce an electrical output any more--and in any event, most sound cards and preamps won't pass it ...

Re: Files sounds Garbled opened with Audacity, fine in itune
That happens when Audacity tries to play a sound file it doesn't really know about. But it tries anyway. What kind of sound was it after the rip?

<<<anticipating that the listner will decode the curves.>>> And not always one to one. Some recordings messed with the curves on the theory--and advertising push--that they sounded "Much Better" than standard disks. Fortunately, they're rare. <<<(before my time ... ahem)>>> But not before ...

Re: Swtching from PC to Mac...how do I open files?
Too many symptoms.
Download the piano trill from here:
http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html
It's a 6 second normal Windows WAV file. Control-Click on the file and save it. Will Audacity open and play it?

Re: problems with recording
<<<the recording stops after 10 seconds or longer without me doing anything.>>> Talk more about that. Does Audacity crash? Do you have to launch it again? Do you a get a good recording--just way too short? Any error messages or codes? What does the screen look like as it's reaching the stop point? Koz
