Re: Mic recording too quiet.
When you go into the Windows Sound user panel (double click on the little speaker icon??) is there a setting anywhere for "20 dB Boost?" Some Windows machines have two sets of control panels, one for playback and one for record. Make sure you have the microphone turned all the way up on th...

Re: mp3 Playback Issues
Did you recently go from WMP10 to WMP11? 9 to 11? Do you have your computer set to Auto Update whenever it feels like it?
I had some very nasty experiences with Windows Media.

Re: Sudden low bitrate recording
This will make zero sense to you, but will you disconnect the microphone--completely--and try to make a short recording using the way that has been damaging the sound?

Re: Cannot debug these weird clicks
Under EDIT there is a tool called Find Zero Crossings. That tool is supposed to get rid of this problem by sliding each edit slightly to an acoustically irrelevant place.

Re: Won't recognize USB mic?
OK, I know about fourteen cents worth more about this that I did a while ago. You say both devices show up in Apple Preferences and they both cause the flashing lights sound meter to wiggle? Audacity wants you to change its [/b] preferences to match the incoming sound, not the other way around. Look...

Re: Sudden low bitrate recording
Thank you for your clear responses.
Now we get to sit in a corner and build your system in our heads and try to recreate your errors.
I don't suppose you can post a brief sample of the damaged audio anywhere? Web site? FTP Site?

Re: Cannot debug these weird clicks
OK. I got it. You have serious discontinuous edits. I have highlighted the problem on these four pictures: http://www.kozco.com/audacity/ click1.jpg through click4.jpg If the pictures come out gritty, download them and open them in Quicktime or Photoshop if you have it. Magnify your brains out. Any ...

Re: Unable to play back recordings
<<<Audacity Project File (Aup) which appears to link to a similarly named data folder which itself consists of many small Real Player files, each containing a short piece of the song(s).>>> That's dangerously close. Audacity Project files are magic and completely complicated. I would not "save&...

Re: GSM plugin
<<<a friend that has GSM capability>>> How is he doing it? Global System for Mobile is a vigorous compressor that is usually implemented in hardware. If you try it in software or as a plugin, it can take a lot of system resources while it's running. If it doesn't, you may get odd audio artifacts suc...
