Re: Save As WAV and Edit Later?
That's how I would do it. There is the faction that would like to capture at 48 KHz 32bit-floating to get the maximum quality and then, after the cutting and editing, convert back to the lower grade 44.1/16. You can do the whole thing at 44.1/16, but we need to keep in mind that serious audiophiles ...

Re: How to remove annoying monotone sound?
That's up to them over at Final Cut. They're a pretty impressive bunch. Keep pushing the idea of Belgian Chocolate. If you try to do it yourself, you may have to split the track up into smaller pieces and write down the corrections so they will apply the same over all the clips. There is not shortag...

Re: Editing Questions
OK, one at a time. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding the problem, but if you select a segment of the performance and Effect, Amplify, the panel will let you change the audio gain in tenth-part dB jumps (-2.6dB, +4.9dB). Not 3. Plus, the one in the effects tool redraws the waveform to show you what you d...

Re: drum machine
Gearbox is a combination software and hardware package right? So you have two packages trying really hard to dominate the sound channels. Without taking the packages apart driver by driver, I would probably try putting a jumper "Y" cable into the machine. Feed the Line Out both to your sou...

Re: Computer keeps crashing
I got a couple of surprises. Microsoft has a Memory Tester. It's part of the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis web page. It's free. http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp Download the analysis tool and when you run it, it will volunteer to make either a boot floppy (rough to get around those) or a bo...

Re: Computer keeps crashing
You have a massively unstable machine. Audacity is not causing this, we need to figure out what is. If you inspect your hard drives, are any of them over 90% full? That will kick you in the head for any kind of production work, video or audio. That inspection changes with the Windows you have. Are y...

Re: problems with iMic recordings
<<<I think I'll start looking around for a pre-amp...>>> I think I won't wait up for you. I'm designing my own mic preamp because nobody makes what you really want--a little box that you plug your mic into and then on into the interface or computer. If you search for "MicPre," you're going...

Re: Monaural output from recording sources?
<<<I don't believe it is truly stereo as both are identical>>> And you know they're both identical because you zoomed all the way into the waveform and each blue wiggle is the same top and bottom? Something to do to confirm that it's really two-channel mono is to install the CenterPanRemover tool an...

Re: How to remove annoying monotone sound?
One of the people over on Final Cut did an excellent job of clean up your sound clip. You should visit and find out how they did it--and whether he's available to do the rest.

Re: Plugins not even in menu
As I'm finding out, it's possible to get too fancy when you're installing Audacity. The Plugin Folder is not visible unless it's actually in the same folder as the Audacity program. When you uncompact Audacity from the install Image, I would personally create a new folder in /Applications called Aud...
