Re: Sector Boundary Errors (SBEs)

<<<Windows audio editors address is sector barrier errors (or SBEs)>>> I've never heard of that and I use all three platforms. That sounds like Windows errors when it's trying to play or produce sound that takes up more than one sector on the hard drive and everything has to wait until the operating...

Re: Recorded stream; really bassy

I use Total Recorder for the PC to capture streaming internet shows--or anything I can hear, basically. It's simple and I can schedule it to record stuff when I'm not here. Failing that, you have to grapple with Windows Sound Services. There's an Audacity Wiki that may help. http://audacityteam.org/...

Re: Isolating certain frequencies???? Can it be done?

Well, that's not going well. The High Pass Filter passes way too much extra sound that it's supposed to be rejecting and you can't control it very well. The other tool that does stuff like this is Effect, Equalizer and it has really good control of the tools, but the effect could use a good kick in ...

Re: Isolating certain frequencies???? Can it be done?

Yes, the High Pass Filter will let you pick one tone pitch and eliminate everything below that. It's in the extra plugins when you installed Audacity. Select (highlight) your song and Effect, High Pass Filter... Middle C is around 256 Hz to get you going. Orchestral A (the oboe sound at the beginnin...

Re: Just a quickie!! How to edit out breaths from voice clip

<<breaths in the copy>>> I bet those aren't quite the right English words. I bet the problem isn't when the actor took a breath during the performance, I bet the real problem is the actor was too close to the microphone and breathed on it during the words . That is a great deal harder to correct. In...

Re: Sound outage, but waveform looks normal

Microsoft WAV (wave) format is uncompressed and provides excellent quality depending on the encoding numbers you chose. (48000 sample frequency will provide higher quality than 44100). WAV files are very large and they don't change. MP3 (MPEG1, Layer 3) sound is compressed and damaged. MP3 is a dest...

Re: Plot Spectrum Question

<<<0.14 Hz.>>> Nobody can do that. Cool Edit 2000 (CE2K) and Adobe Audition can take you down to +/- 1/10 Hz. I don't know of a package that can do +/- 1/100 Hz. We probably need to keep in mind that all these tools are working against the accuracy of the A/D converters and the local time base gener...

Re: Mastering Freeware

<<<mastering mixed audio files.>>> In other words, taking a fully produced orchestra and break it out into violins, cellos, trumpets, etc? No. The very best you can do is the Vocal Removal Tool which removes anything dead center of the stereo field. Since that's usually where vocals are, the singer ...
