Re: How Can I Improve The Sound Quality of Speech Recordings
I have several different programs that create MP3 files and they all warn at the beginning that once you do this, you can't ever go back. If you have "straight" soft or muddy audio, then you might make use of the equalizer. Load a short version of the track (don't load the whole 90 minutes...

Re: Those dinky meters
<<<I have also had to work with user interface considerations such as display methods and sizes.>>> You're going to be really sorry you said that. Do you know a software package that will display a VU meter on the screen? I totally don't care about the graphics (I do have a copy of ANSI C16.5) as mu...

Ideally, you'd go to WAV format to avoid the double (three, really) compression step.

Re: Audio waveform stops scrolling
<<<Is this approach dangerous with respect to lost data?>>> Since you're already having damaged data, I would say yes. A grand protection would be to Export a WAV file of the work (like a whole album side) if you have the room. You can always go back to that WAV file in an emergency and edit that wi...

Re: files missing from data folder
You can get Audacity to tell you locations. Open up the AUP file in WordPad or TextEdit or some word editor and read it. I know it's a mess, but expand the window as much as possible and it will start to line itself up in columns and rows. <<<aliasfile='C:Documents and SettingskozDesktoppiano2.wav'>...

Re: new laptop, audacity doesn't work
<<<what about the fact that it's not picking up any recording devices?>>> You didn't get the hint. We're trying to get you to tell us more about your machine. Are you on Vista? Do you have the latest software drivers for your sound devices? Audacity is a complete slave to the Windows Sound Services....

Re: Audio waveform stops scrolling
Are you running out of drive space? A general fuzzy number is never let an audio or video hard drive get higher than 90% full. Projects are very dangerous. Do you ever stop and export the music as a nice WAV or MP3? That's the first and only time you get a file that you can email to your mom to play...

Re: Hum and echo while sampling from USB input
It's not the console. "Exercise" the 3.5mm sound plug going into the iMic. Or pull it out, clean it with alcohol and dry it, and then put it back. Then exercise the USB connection (in and out a couple of times), or change the connection completely. Audio equipment needs to be on their own ...

Re: Giving Stereo Depth to Mono Tracks
http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html Download the "Left Right" clip and listen on headphones to the last segment. This whole track is never more than one voice (me) in two track mono. Two identical copies on left and right and panning my brains out--except for the last one. That's wh...

Re: files missing from data folder
Nobody understands projects. A "project" is a whole fistfull of files including the original capture clips. Misplace one clip and the show falls to pieces. AU files aren't sound files--some of them are pictures. AUP files are program traffic cops that you can open up in TextEdit and read. ...
