Re: problem playing something I made yesterday. HELP!

<<<file which looks like it saved fine>>>

"Saved" fine? I bet they're trying to open up one of the AU files. If they pick the wrong one, the system will never find the Sound Device.

Re: problem playing something I made yesterday. HELP!

Let me rewrite your question. I captured a music performance, cut it, and saved the project. Now I want to email a sound file of the show to my mom. "Save" will not give you a sound file. To get a single finished sound file, you need to File > Export as WAV... or MP3, or other format. Yes,...

Re: recovering unsaved files

Better crash recovery is high on the list of things to design into the next version of Audacity. Here's the wiki:

Re: Deleting old files

Windows Audacity Preferences are contained the the Registry. This page gives you some information about how to reset certain keys. http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacitydl.html Scroll down. Of course, everybody warns you that editing the registry, while possible, may, if done incorrectly, reduce you...

Re: Pausing at label or bookmark...

I am the world's non-expert of labels, but I can tell you whatever you want them to do, they don't.

There is a wiki page:

Re: Files disappear after exporting selection as MP3

There's too many holes in the question.

After recording my live guitar performance, Audacity exports MP3 files the right length but with no audio. The original capture files are OK.

Am I close?

Re: Is it possible to make recording SOUND like a phone call

I'm trying to figure out how to get the bubbling. Select the clip and export MP3, but pick the worst possible quality. That should give you a very bubbly voice. Then mix that back into the original track here and there as the cellphone signal comes and goes. You have to be reasonably good at Audacit...

Re: Is it possible to make recording SOUND like a phone call

Oh, sure. Select the clip and Effect > Equalizer. That blue line is a rubber band and you can pull it around with your mouse. Drop everything below 300 and everything above 3000. Make sure everything in the middle is at zero or boosted. That's how a normal telephone works and it's pretty unmistakabl...

Re: Can't Record Tapes

<<<Is it possible to ruin one's tapes in trying to convert to digital? >>> To answer a question you didn't ask; is it possible to ruin tapes by playing them multiple times on a fifteen year old tape player. Oh, yes, certainly. Cassette players have all the belts, braking tensioners and rubber pucks ...

Re: Glitch with mp3 encoding--Help sought

If it's important for work, I would export as a WAV file and save that somewhere that it's safe. If your system starts becoming unstable, you could flush the whole project and it's good to have a backup. Because of where you posted, we don't know if you're on Windows or not. Are you? Vista? Has any ...
