Re: Problem laying second track....it re-records the first t

I thought I got this once before. You are recording the machine playback as well as the new capture. Windows audio control panel will do that and a lot of other neat tricks if you set it up wrong. Open up the windows audio control panel and deselect "What You Hear," Or "Mix." Tha...

Re: Giving Stereo Depth to Mono Tracks

<<<if the stereo separation sounds "right" on headphones, it's likely to sound almost mono through speakers.>>> Yes, up to a point. I agree that stereo separation tends to be more pronounced through headphones, but I'm staring at several shelves full of CDs on the other side of the room th...

Re: records from optical-in too fast

<<<Any idea how to get the digital audio player using the right samplerate,>>> The "right" sample rate is 48 (or 96 or higher) not 44.1. 44.1 is CD quality deliverable, not a production format. All video production is 48, DATs run at 48, DigiBeta and D1s run at 48, etc, etc. 44.1 is barely...

Re: recording AM broadcasts - days and weeks worth

<<<Would it be better to use a video editor for this task?>>> I've done it that way, although you can't make it record over old files. You may not be able to go days and days, either. You can either use a time code generator and feed that into the video input, or something as exciting as a small cam...

Re: Trouble exporting to wav or mp3

Sudden Unexplained Windows Insanity may be caused by: --Hard drives filling up. Audacity needs a lot of elbow room to do production, especially if you decide to perform dual-pass MP3 exports on a 2 hour long show. Suddenly, the machine has to come up with gigs of storage. --A cousin hard drive probl...

Re: Changing voice to a different voice? help!

No hope. The Center Pan Remover takes the original voice out according to some very strict rules, and then destroys it. If everything goes well, it also leaves you with a mono orchestration. If things don't go well, you get a mono orchestra track and a bubbly, distorted voice. You still need the ori...

Re: problems importing mp3s

<<<when I try to play my uploaded mp3 file >>> Did it sound OK before you uploaded it? Just do the export and open it right back up in Audacity and play it? Did you upload it to a service that changes it into something else...like YouTube? Really fast playback or high pitch and distortion is usually...

Re: Strange recording problem

I don't know that I agree that hollow-echoes are normal for a microphone. (I can't listen to the samples. My DSL is acting insane.) Muffled, fuzzy, peaky, yes. Not echoey. It sounds to me like you are double recording it. It's possible to tell Windows machines to record a sound device and the output...

Re: Dazzle & Audacity

<<<What do I need to do?>>> Open it up in Windows Sound Recorder. <<<Windows Sound Recorder is a great idea, it's in the Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment>>> If that doesn't work, then you need to upgrade your hardware drivers, or take other steps. If Windows can't recognize it as a ...

Re: Giving Stereo Depth to Mono Tracks

It's at this point that I raise my bloody paw and insist that you listen to the work on Very Good speakers or Top Quality headphones. The average computer speaker system will not pass the most basic, simple audio tests for quality. You can't do audio special effects unless you can hear what you're d...
