<<<provided you have enough disc space ......>>>
Yeah. You run into all sorts of oddball problems when you go to multi hour recordings. The surveillance systems compress the video to pieces before they try to record on a drive.

Re: Files getting hosed when I SAVE
<<<the tracks just stopped playing, even though there were valid waveforms on the screen.>>> Sure. That happens when the AUP file gets out of sync with The Real World and that happens when you delete or move one of your original, pre-edit sound files. That always happens when somebody cleans up and ...

Re: Files getting hosed when I SAVE
And just to emphasize that, "Save" will not [/u] give you a sound file. To get a sound file that you can email to somebody, you need to Export a WAV or other format. Projects are traffic cops, effects instructions, managers, graphics, directors, and snippits, not sound files. When you play...

In reverse order:
If you click once anywhere inside the red record meters with the machine stopped, the meters will wake up and tell you what the levels will be when you start.
"Pause" is the only way to append a recording.

Re: Error message at start of recording
Just to confirm, you opened up the Mac Sound Panel and you can see the bouncing lights when you talk, right? What happens when you try to record something from the Mac internal microphone? Switch the sound panel to Mac Internal and see if Audacity can record that. Make sure that Audacity input switc...

Re: display freezes part way through
What's the capacity of your hard drive? Are you reaching the limit? That's what it sounds like. INFO your system drive (if that's the one you're using for capture) and make sure there's at least 10% free space.

<<<... can help me get the settings right?>>> No, but I bet I can tell you how to get recordings. Macs will not record playback audio without a little software help. I use WireTap, but there are other options. It's not a setting problem. --Record Internet-- http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.ph...

<<<What could the problem be?>>>
Almost certainly hardware problems. Remove and replug the microphone USB connection several times. Change to the other USB. It's supposed to be on USB2.

Re: Files disappear after exporting selection as MP3
<<<old stream audio>>> That's important. You did not have a capture from a live performance. Live stuff gives you real sound files. Streams don't always. Many streams are data stubs that call a proprietary player and they're fine as long as you are connected to the internet or have all the pieces av...

I'm going to throw in the towel on this one. I can't hear the problem past the fuzz guitar.
