What's the capacity of your hard drive? Are you reaching the limit? That's what it sounds like. INFO your system drive (if that's the one you're using for capture) and make sure there's at least 10% free space.

What's "particularly long?"

Almost certainly hardware problems. Remove and replug the microphone USB connection several times. Change to the other USB. It's supposed to be on USB2.
