DV production supports 32 KHz four-channel sound in addition to the usual 48 KHz Stereo stuff. Audacity will have no idea what that is.

It might be said you're running the wrong Audacity. My very similar machine is running 1.2.5 and Lame and Bridge all work famously. If you run the wrong Audacity the program doesn't fail, it's the plugins and add-ons that fail.

Are you exporting self contained WAV files of each and every track and then dumping each one into the CD authoring tool? What is the CD authoring/burning tool?

That can be caused by a country issue. Did you pick English when you first installed Audacity? Did it ask you like it's supposed to?
