Re: Program won't close
Sudden, unexplained Windows insanity would prompt me to update my Virus definitions and do an exhaustive system scan with the network/internet unplugged. Also, Audacity doesn't Play Well with Others. Do you have other audio software that didn't come with Windows? Audacity likes to halt all its resou...

Re: Sound Input Error
Things slow down a little when we have to go look something up and do systemic analysis. The Edirol looks like it supports a whole bunch of encoding bits and sample frequencies. Some of that is going to be pure advertising fodder. For example, most analog microphone amplifiers are far worse than mos...

Re: Track division
I know the theory of this. Stop on the gap between cuts and add a marker. Project > Add Marker or Apple-B (I don't know what it is in Windows). When you're done, File > Export Multiple, and it should give you a pile of individual files instead of one long one. Here it is: http://audacityteam.org/wik...

Re: Recording problem
<<<I have a cable from audio-out (camcorder) to microphone input jack using line-in.>>> Or, more properly, you have a cable going to the Line-In connection instead of the Mic-In connection. Yes. That's perfectly correct. Camcorders usually produce a "line" level signal. As to why it stops ...

<<<I have tried making multiple adjustments in Audacity's Preferences, but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?>>> You're making multiple adjustment in Audacity's Preferences. You should be in the Mac System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. If your device doesn't show up there and you can't se...

Re: Recording through a headset
<<<a headset with a microphone.>>>
Which type or model number of headset and microphone might that be, and which kind of computer are you using? It could be argued you should be posting this in the Mac, Windows, or Linux forum to give you a head start.

<<<44100 Hz and a sample format of 16-bits. >>> That's something else the music CD authoring program handles. All our live recordings are 48/16 to get the higher quality and direct compatibility with our video systems. It could be argued that we should be higher yet, but we've never found a reason t...

Re: Just Getting Started
<<<3 min. file plays back in under 10 sec.>>> That's what happens when Audacity is presented with a sound file it doesn't understand. Most compressed file types do that and they almost always play back like they're on fire. Right click on the sound file and select Properties. That should give you th...

Re: Recordings are clipping. Any ideas?
Sudden Unexplained Windows Insanity could mean you're not the only person using your machine. When was the last time you updated your virus software and did a complete (hour long) system scan? "It's automatic and I don't worry about it." doesn't count. Every so often you have to stop and c...
