<<<it's as if some of the files in the data folder are missing.>>> Backwards. The little files in the _DATA folder are pointing to real audio files that aren't there. There are no audio files in a Project. To repeat because this is important, when you save a Project, you do not get audio files. Proj...

No. That was a not so subtle joke to get Latham to write a tool that would do that.
He didn't take the bait...yet.

Re: Recording SKYPE phone/computer conversations
I wonder about being able to do this. In order to get Skype to work, they have to defeat hardware playback during the microphone use. Further, if someone is in really bad form and trying to use a desk microphone and live speakers, Skype has to put in echo cancellation to avoid feedback. That's proba...

Re: How many multitracks can be done using Audacity?
<<<I was wondering how many tracks can one record with Audacity?>>> 16 single mono audio channels, but that's not the trick. Audacity will record 16 tracks from one sound device . Most devices provide two tracks of audio and then appear like a second device to get the next two. Audacity will not han...

Re: Creating New Audio TRack Questions
<<<See any problems with doing the plan?>>> Oh, yes. Certainly, but maybe not the way you think. Most people who write about audio systems concentrate on the upper frequencies since that's where most of the problems and magic are. Most but not all. No audio specification I know of goes below 20 Hz. ...

Re: Audacity getting confused with multiple windows open
Audacity does not like multiple instances running.
You should try opening up multiple Audacities on a Linux machine. You get a small mushroom cloud over the machine.
