Re: Newbie BASIC recording
<<< its just a case of burning to a disc i presume? >>> Yes. Export As Wav... and drop that into iTunes. Create a Playlist with the performance in it and burn your brains out. That's the easy part. I'll do the fluffy quick theory thing: Open something along with your music so that Audacity creates a...

Re: CRT or CPU Interference?
<<<mobile phones>>> Mobile phones have a hidden problem. If you have one on vibrate and it rings while it's sitting on top of a glass monitor, it can put a semi-permanent color blotch on the monitor. All those conditions have to line up. Vibrate mode on a mobile runs a small, unshielded electric mot...

Re: Lotsa noise, unpredictable spot, USB turntable
Pretty much. It's the worst of all possible digital situations. It's conditionally stable. That old digital saw that it's "either on or off" isn't entirely true. There is an ambiguous zone and if you manage to live in that zone, you get things that work only on Thursday and as long as you ...

Re: Stereo to Mono
It's also good to know that compressing before the final show isn't a good idea. Compressors do their best starting with uncompressed, perfect masters. So capture your voice at 48000/16 and do the cutting and production in that. Then, when you get everything pretty much perfect, Export As MP3... You...

Re: Sound Cards
I don't know that you can get a meaningful answer because on a PC, there are so many variables. They warn you that placement of the sound card is critical to avoid interaction between the computer components and the analog audio components, so isolation from electrical garbage needs to be part of th...

Re: Recording what's going through sound card
Shucks. We'll keep looking. VOIP is an interesting case. As I've written earlier, Internet telephone calls are required to run the record and playback sides of the audio service at the same time--with no dangerous interaction. I know from videoconferencing that delays play a pretty big part of that,...

Re: AUP files won't open
It's actually worse than that. Projects aren't "things," they're clouds and you have to move the whole cloud; the AUP file, the _DATA folder and all the little AU files inside, the original clips and the original data and folder structure. Leave anything out and something won't work right....

Re: recording level problem
Make sure you're plugged into the Line-In of your sound card. If you plug into the Mic-In by accident, you will overload the input electronics which aren't affected by the volume controls. Another oddity is the "20dB boost." Some sound cards apply that across the board instead of just the ...
