Re: New to podcasting - need a mixer?

Oh and you're never going to split the performers from each other. One thing you can do is soundproof the room. I can't find the example right his second, but I have talked to someone ten feet away in a glassy, insanely echoey room. I can watch their mouth move, but I can't understand a word they're...

Re: New to podcasting - need a mixer?

It tends to start skipping at louder noises. We in America call that broken. Or that's somebody's experimental software. Can you imagine explaining to the executive producer that you were on the scene of a massive explosion but you don't have footage because your recorder doesn't like loud noises? ...

Re: New to podcasting - need a mixer?

if I can have each mic only picking up one person at a time. You're all in the same room? I saved this layout for illustration. This is (or was) the Charlie Rose studio and that's the spacing he needed to get good isolation between his voice and the guest. He and the guest are well-behaved and not ...

Re: ACX Feedback

Puzzled puppy looks all around. There is one other possibility. Audible is a very large, complex, evolving company. Everybody knows people who work in large companies always work at their highest potential and never make mistakes, right? Audible will not respond to questions, you can try if you wish...

Re: ACX Feedback

As we keep insisting at great length, Audacity won't cure theater problems. If you got aggressive and crazy in one chapter, all the chapters may match technical specifications, but that one chapter may not match to your ear as you listen. Did you do something like that? Post the actual complaint pan...

Re: Why is there a background sound?

This is your microphone, right? Screen Shot 2020-02-26 at 2.39.37.png It doesn't have any voice volume controls. The adjustments on the microphone are both for headphone mixing and don't affect the show. Here's how we're doing this: Open your sample in Audacity. Apply the three audiobook mastering t...

Re: Why is there a background sound?

Oh. Wait. We may have a different problem. You didn't leave the two seconds of dead silence at the front of your voice track. That can throw off the tools.

Read Closet-Two.

Re: Why is there a background sound?

So do I. It does have a fan, but it only comes on loud when the Air is stressed or is trying to do a lot of work.

What's the microphone?

Re: Why is there a background sound?

You never said what your microphone was. Does it have a volume control on it? That setting should probably be higher. Your raw annoucning is very low volume. If you make it too low, the electronic noise of the microphone will start to interfere with your voice. Your voice recording blue waves should...

Re: Why is there a background sound?

The raw closet test reading will not pass noise, but it's much closer. I applied 9, 6, 6 noise reduction and I got the ACX Check posted here. Screen Shot 2020-02-25 at 18.51.33.png It does pass noise, but not by enough. The limit is -60dB. Your Closet Test with Noise Reduction is -63dB (quieter), bu...
