Re: wave pattern locale

Are you talking about the blue wiggly lines with "0.0, 0.5, and 1.0" labels on the left, like this: http://www.kozco.com/audacity/audacityPanel.jpg ..Yes, those waveforms should never touch 1. But just to bring us into the world of audio, click on the black down arrow on the left and selec...

Re: VU Meters

You know you can change the size of the meters by grabbing the lower right corner of the Audacity work panel and pushing it around? The meters resize themselves and there are positions where the meters are very large. If you get the panel really narrow, the meters default to a second line under the ...

Re: Set Recording Time Limit

You might try 1.3.x. I think that one has a timer, and you can get 1.2.x and 1.3.x to install on your machine at the same time (just don't run them that way).

Re: Set Recording Time Limit

It would, wouldn't it? This is one reason I can't use Audacity to record internet radio shows when I'm not here. I think there is a timer in the new 1.4.

1.2.x has no timers I've ever been able to find.

Re: Playback audio swaps left and right after recording in s

I hope you're recording a line level performance with your deskside PC, right? You can get this kind of thing if your connection to the sound card isn't firm. Moisten a paper towel with a bit of rubbing alcohol (a small dab of vodka will do, too) and rub around the contacts of the 3.5mm audio plug. ...

Re: How to install Audacity on a Mac - Perfectly?

<<<I am recording live mixes.>>> Cool. So you spin records on a couple of 1200s and analog mix them down as appropriate? Please stop weaving and dodging every time I ask you this. If I didn't want to know details, I wouldn't ask. Set up Audacity for different digital qualities: Restart the Mac. Open...

Re: picking up radio signals

What we're after is doing something and have the interference change, not necessarily go away. If it's AM broadcast, lifting the grounds may indeed help. Wavelength at those frequencies is measured in meters (yards), not centimeters (Inches). If you drive past the AM towers (Jersey Meadowlands), loo...

Re: Too hot audio

Overload and clipping are still pretty much project death. The much more expensive audio programs have tools that claim to be able to do this, but nobody is breaking any speed records to use them more than once. There's also the technique of reconstructing the actual damaged waveform using the drawi...

Re: Distortion / Inteference / Garbled Playback

Are you using a USB turntable? Are you joining the hundreds and hundreds of other people having trouble with USB turntables "after a while?" I don't know that anybody has ever figured out why this happens, but it almost always happens with the USB turntables that everybody got for Christma...

Re: software requirement document

1.4.x is waiting for them to complete the documentation. This may be a fortuitous intersection.

Let's see if one of the Audacity mommies drops in.
