Re: Determining Record Levels

<<<I'm not convinced it makes a difference in the real world, but it's certainly better than having one piece of equipment at a ridiculously low volume and having the other pushed all the way up.>>> That's pretty much correct in the real world. People desperately want to reduce the thing to easily r...

Re: auto start and stop of recording

If you can get the programming to simulate keypresses, then I suppose you could sweet-talk Audacity into cooperating. 1.2.x, as I'm sure you already know, has no timers built-in. Just remember when you export, you have to trap filenames so they don't step on each other or create file sequence damage...

Re: Peak Level Distortion at Low Input Levels

Just to bring this all the way around, which amplifier are you using--given that it has to process the phono cartridge signals and remove the RIAA distortion. There was a spirited discussion here a while back about the quality of various stand-alone phono preamplifiers. <<<this weakness should be ad...

Re: Stopping/Starting recording without creating new tracks

I think in 1.2.x, your only two options are to press pause, which won't let you play back, and to let it create the second batch of tracks and cut and paste them onto the end of the first tracks. Repeat as needed.

Re: Memory usage? 100%???

Sometimes Audacity sees hard drive space as an extension of real hardware memory. How full are all your hard drives and which ones have you told Audacity to use for scratch space?

Re: Time limit on Audacity audio imports??

It's 18 minutes long, but does it sound funny? Audacity's reaction to a foreign file format that it doesn't understand is to play it as if it were uncompressed. If it happens to actually be compressed, you get things like a 3 minute song that plays in fifteen seconds. What is this file and if you op...

Re: Can't Record in Stereo

<<<it is buried on the 4th page of a PC post>>> There's a reason for that. You don't have either a PC or a Mac. <<<Does it have something to do with a sound card?>>> I'm betting it has something to do with sharing resources and virtual machine services. We have a person trying to do VOIP and H.323 v...

Re: how to record 200 minutes of simple reading of text to c

<<<...200 minutes...>>> What he said. That's if your goal is to produce a standard Audio Compact Disk that will play anywhere in the world. If you change your goal a little, there are certainly other ways to go. If the goal is to produce a Data Compact Disk to play on any machine with an MP3 player,...

Re: distortion during needledrop...Leopard issue?

<<<the resulting CD's sound fine.>>> They should. The Line-In of a Mac is a very respectable port with good distortion, noise, and headroom specifications. Given everything else going on, this is not the bottleneck. Also keeping in mind that everything used to be transferred this way and not that lo...
