Re: Exporting to iTunes
<<<I did it all in MP3.>>> We are warned against multiple compressions. Production should be done in the highest uncompressed quality you can manage with one compression to the delivery platform at the end. All the world's compressors, video or audio, are destructive. The second compression in a str...

<<<Most desktop computers have a Line In, many laptops do not.>>>
..and Macs have Line-In across the product offerings, laptops included. The jury is out on the "Air."

Re: Transferring a project from MAC to PC
A project consists of an XML master control file (AUP), a data folder with "stuff" in it. (_DATA and AU files), all the original capture and sound clips, and the directory structure. All of those must be present and in the right order and location for a project to work. I call it the proje...

Re: Recording device
<<<I'm not getting sound while recording>>> That is what the "playthrough" selections are supposed to do. I've never been able to get that to work. You can monitor volume levels using the flashing lights in Audacity and plug headphones into the cassette deck. Many of them (both of mine) ha...

Re: Question on how Audacity handles its audio files.
<<<do the audio files associated with the deleted tracks still remain in the data folder?>>> If you can UNDO your actions, it's all still there. <<<all original audio recorded into Audacity is stored unchanged in roughly 1 Meg files>>> Qualified yes. You understand that if you open up a pre-existing...

Re: Sound Problems
A couple of extra words would make this so much easier. "I'm running a AT PL-120 Direct Drive Turntable onto a Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop PC with XP." OK. Where's the preamp and how do you have the two RCA cables from the turntable connected to your laptop? Do you have a Line-In connection? A...

Re: Exporting to iTunes
Let me play that back to you. You captured and did all the production in 48000 16 bit and then exported WAV for importing into iTunes at MP3 custom 320K. There was a spirited discussion on here somewhere about the same bit rate in lame will result in a better encode than the import functions of iTun...

Re: Recording device
Since you're using the iMic to pull in line level work, you may be working too hard. We need to find out more about your machine. If you read over your postings, you'll find that you told me you have a built-in mic and you're running Leopard. That's it. If you have a relatively modern Mac, then you ...

Re: Recording device
<<<I'm not speaking of a device input menu on Lepoard>>> I am. Audacity is standing on the sound services of whatever operating system it's running on. If OS-X can't see the iMic, then that's the ball game. Do you have QuickTime Pro? Excellent $30 investment. You can launch QuickTime Pro and record ...
