<<<MPEG Layer 3>>>
Or more accurately, MPEG1, Layer III. MPEG1 has been around for a long time.
Digital Broadcasting and DVDs are based on MPEG2. Windows Media and some of the higher, newer systems use MPEG4.

Re: "Error Opening File"
You may have a different problem than you think. In oder to open a compressed audio file, Audacity has to uncompress it. And then to do effects it has to form UnDo files. Re: "Error Opening File"
Close Audacity and open it up in QuickTime Player. Does it open? Press Apple-I for INFO and make sure it actually is an MP3 file.

Re: No sound on Audacity 1.2.6
Let's get one direction working at a time. Pull down the "Piano Trill" from here:

Load it into Audacity and play it. Do you get the blue waveform, bouncing lights, and sound?

Don't pull the hair out. You'll need it later. <<<If I upgrade my soundcard would this problem go away??? >>> I'm guessin' yes. I agree with the MHz people. Cheap sound cards may record your performance with bad digital numbers. Send that sound file to someone whose sound card works right, and you g...

Re: Converting tracks to a email
What he said. MP3 does add damage, however, and if it's critical that the person at the other end of the email gets perfect files, then Export As WAV. WAV files can be really large, however, and most email services have limits on how big a file you can send. WAV is officially a Windows audio format,...
